Industry in Blekinge, Skåne and Sweden faces several major and common challenges. In a short period of time, the industry needs to drastically reduce its climate footprint. This shift, driven by increased international regulations and requirements and increased consumer demand, affects all parts of companies' operations. The green transition requires new and circular production methods, development and investment in new climate- and environmentally smart materials and production technologies and, not least, new, green and economically sustainable business models. The green transition affects all types of manufacturing companies, large and small, regardless of industry. However, compared to larger companies, small and medium-sized enterprises lack the resources and skills required to meet ever-sharpening sustainability requirements imposed in policy decisions and by customers. A key to a successful green and economically sustainable transition is dedicated and well-trained employees who can actively contribute to, develop and accelerate the green transition. Through a partnership between the social partners (IF Metall and Teknikföretagen) and the industrial development actors (IUC Syd and Techtank), proven methods, working methods and tools, the objectives of the project are to meet, and contribute to solving, three essential challenges: 1. the need to increase the skills of employees to enable them to actively contribute to the green transition of industry; 2. Low proportion of senior management who work systematically and strategically with their skills supply. 3. Difficulties in reaching out to individuals, so that everyone has access to knowledge enhancement. A cornerstone of the project is to work strategically, structured, and business-driven in the Mind the Gap tool. The tool enables an analysis that links companies’ business strategy to the sustainability requirements and skills needs needed to implement the green transition of the company. Based on these analyses, the project tailors, orders and delivers the skills development efforts to the company's employees, which increases the employees' ability to lead and contribute to the green transition. The project's objectives are to reach out to 100 companies and engage 1,500 individuals in skills development for the green transition. In addition, 100 competency analyses will be carried out. By working closely with the companies and with the help of the project partners, the project will also establish a strong foundation for future skills provision. In the long term, the project will contribute to a faster pace in the green transition, more management teams working strategically with skills supply, more employees in the industry who are equipped with the right skills to contribute to the green transition and – ultimately – a green and sustainable production and employment in Blekinge, Skåne and Sweden.
