A blind spot – girls in gang-criminal environments

This project is about the girls who grow up, live in or are otherwise connected to the gang criminal environment. Girls who are often invisible and "under the radar" and therefore remain undetected by police, social services, healthcare and other societal actors. The situation of girls is not given enough attention and the vulnerability they may find themselves in is often overlooked, as well as the role girls play in organised crime. The overall goal of the project is to contribute to young girls at risk of long-term socio-economic vulnerability experiencing increased empowerment and participation in society as well as the opportunity to influence their own future. This requires the development of new approaches, new tools and new skills that capture and are adapted to the situation and needs of the target group. The aim of the project is to develop the ability of societal actors to discover and make available a transversal gender sensitive social support aimed at young girls. Through socially innovative approaches, the project will develop new forms of social support aimed at the target group. The goal is for the girls who are in the gang criminal environment and who are at risk of long-term socio-economic vulnerability to resume studies and establish themselves in the labour market.
