Good start in life and good growing conditions

The proportion of children aged 0-17 in Borås who grow up in households with low income standards is 8.4%. There are mainly 5 areas (according to DeSo classification) that stand out with the highest proportion of children in low-income families. Two of these areas are on the police's list of particularly vulnerable areas. In the most vulnerable areas, more than 40% of children are financially vulnerable. In order to reduce differences in living conditions and thereby also combat child poverty, we now have a special focus on what we call Socially Sustainable Borås, the city's long-term work to create more equal living conditions and better health for our residents. Through ESF support, we want to continue to develop and strengthen the work that is already underway. It is about: 1. Create meaningful leisure culture and leisure activities for children 6-17 years and expand the approach of Arena school to more areas as well as 2. Building a Centre for Youth Entrepreneurship. The work in the application will focus on Hässleholmen/Hulta and Norrby, all areas that are classified as particularly vulnerable according to the police definition. By strengthening and expanding the range of meaningful leisure and supportive activities, we create opportunities for cohesion, social capital and promote the health of children living in financial vulnerability. Conditions that in turn help to increase opportunities for completed studies and improve opportunities to enter the labour market. How children's competences and knowledge are developed through different forms of learning during the different stages of life and has a strong connection with people's conditions for good living conditions. The Centre for Youth Entrepreneurship is an initiative to create bridges between young people and external partners in industry, organisations and the public sector in order to give young people more equal opportunities to participate actively in society. The idea is to support young people's entrepreneurship in a broad sense, but also to develop an awareness of how to meet what awaits them during and after their studies. A centre for young people's entrepreneurship will help the target group take responsibility and act for their future and strengthen their well-being by motivating and coaching them to new insights, knowledge and actions. This by giving young people the opportunity to test their ideas, strengthen their network and self-confidence, they are given the conditions to enter the world of work and become part of society.
