There is currently too weak cooperation between folk high school as a form of education and the actors that promote business development. The proportion of folk high school participants who become self-employed is fewer than from other corresponding educational actors. Studies from 2011 – 2018 show that entrepreneurship increases marginally between the years, but the difference with participants outside folk high school remains large and for the target group participants on general courses, the number of self-employed persons in all types of municipalities decreases. The participants in Folkhögskolan often belong to the target group young people with disabilities, foreign-born people and participants with special needs, and in this group the path to self-employment is often very long. There are weak or few cooperation structures between folk high schools and business support actors and this is especially true in the sparse geography. The project wants to capture and support the individual while building stronger structures for a long-term perspective in sparse environments. The project is expected to result in an increased collaboration between business promoters and folk high schools leading to a developed educational structure at folk high schools which in turn leads to an increased entrepreneurial learning among the participants. In a long-term perspective, the project contributes to the creation of more companies in the county, which in turn reduces unemployment. Entrepreneurial learning also contributes to increased employability as this knowledge is increasingly in demand in the business sector. The project is also expected to achieve increased accessibility among the target group of business promoters.
