Care for Ukraine

Care for Ukraine is a special effort to support the entry into the labour market of newly arrived Ukrainian women covered by the EU's Mass Refuge Directive. The target group includes women aged 18-64 and the purpose of the project is to meet the needs of the target group for both work and social inclusion. The project is owned by Nya Kompisbyrån and is run in four municipalities. The action consists of a mentoring program that runs over 4 months. Ukrainian women are matched here with female mentors who are established in Sweden and can offer individual support, extended social networks and information that can facilitate participants' entry into the labour market. In parallel with the mentorship programme, participants attend a training programme, the “Finance Programme”, in which participants are expected to gain greater knowledge of opportunities in the Swedish labour market, write/develop CVs and personal letters, increase their language skills and establish social networks with women in similar situations. The training includes 6 meetings of 2 hours and childcare is offered at each meeting. The overall aim of Care for Ukraine is to counteract the trend of low employment rates and lack of social integration of foreign-born women in Sweden. In this regard, labour market establishment and social inclusion are two key components that have the potential to increase the possibility of economic independence and effective integration into the local community. Efforts to secure the establishment of protection seekers in society are particularly important against the background that women fleeing armed conflict are at particular risk of exploitation. Joint efforts are needed to promote opportunities for newly arrived Ukrainian women who have fled to Sweden. Care for Ukraine is one of them and is expected to contribute to more women in the target group being able to more easily establish themselves in Swedish society.
