The project aims to address the challenges that people fleeing the war in Ukraine face when trying to integrate into Swedish society. Given the uncertain situation in Ukraine and the potential timeframe before Ukrainians can return home, the holistic approach to meeting these challenges is crucial. By providing targeted support to those covered by the Temporary Protection Directive, the project aims to work towards sustainable and inclusive social development, facilitating the path to employment, education, autonomy and self-sufficiency for this target group. It focuses on two closely related areas: mental well-being and work-related efforts to bring individuals closer to the labour market and help them feel more included in Swedish society. It is crucial to focus on the urgent mental health needs that many Ukrainian refugees are struggling with. Currently, Ukrainians covered by the Temporary Protection Directive have limited access to healthcare, making them vulnerable compared to other refugees. The project also aims to reduce the mental strain that refugees may experience by offering and making available the supportive measures for their mental health to which others in society are entitled. Another challenge is the lack of targeted programmes that specifically focus on young immigrants and their integration into the labour market. These programmes can offer tailored training, mentoring and support tailored to the specific needs of these young individuals. The lack of such programmes limits the resources and tools available for young Ukrainian individuals to successfully integrate into the Swedish labour market. The objectives of the project include labour market initiatives to equip young and adult refugees with concrete tools and skills for the inclusive labour market. This includes education, career development and internships, with the aim of increasing their employment opportunities, self-sufficiency and contribution to an inclusive labour market. By combining labour market initiatives and psychological interventions, the project creates a holistic and effective approach to promote the well-being and integration of participants. The work to improve participation in Swedish society increases the project's chances of successful integration. By building strong and inclusive networks, fostering mutual understanding and creating a platform for collaboration, we aim to shape a positive future for our society of equality, accessibility, non-discrimination and sustainability. By integrating these horizontal principles into our strategies and actions, we focus our attention on creating societal change that benefits both our new Swedish citizens and Swedish society as a whole. The project is run jointly by the Church of Sweden in Carl Johan's pastorate and non-profit organization Help Ukraine Gothenburg (HUG). The main activities take place in Gothenburg and are aimed at Ukrainians who live throughout Region Västra Götaland, with a special focus on the 13 municipalities that surround Gothenburg and make up the Gothenburg region.
