Värmland's Youth at Work

The latest statistics from 2020 show that the share of young people not in employment, education or training (NEETs) remains high. In Värmland, there are a total of 4031 young people, of whom 1821 are aged 16-24 (6.6%) and 2210 are aged 25-29 (12.5%), i.e. slightly higher figures than the country as a whole. The problem of young people not in employment, education or training (NEETs) can be found at both individual, organisational and structural levels. In order to reduce the personal suffering that exclusion entails and to reduce the large socio-economic costs that it entails for young people not to enter the labour market, efforts are needed at all three levels, both with a corrective and preventive focus. Through the project "Värmlands Youth at Work", ten municipalities in Värmland want to: Arvika, Filipstad, Grums, Hagfors, Hammarö, Karlstad, Sunne, Säffle, Torsby and Årjäng develop their work with NEETs. The target group for the project is young people and young adults aged 16-29 who are not in employment, education or training (NEETs), with a particular focus on target groups that are currently not reached by the municipalities’ efforts. These young people are, for example, young people with a foreign background (who are an underrepresented group in municipal operations), young people at risk or abuse, and young people who are at risk of falling into or are in crime. The project's goal is that participating young people in the project have been equipped with strengthening measures so that they approach the labour market, get into work or start studying. Examples of efforts in the project to identify and work outreach, motivational, armoring are collaboration with: • School • Social services • Police • Leisure • Non-profit actors Examples of strengthening measures in the project: • Conversational support • Individual planning with coordinated parallel actions • Customised practice • Customised studies • Guidance • Health promotion actions Actions can be given individually and in group activities and take the form of physical or digital meetings. The project's efforts are carried out in collaboration with identified actors such as the police, correctional services and health care. The project will also work to identify more collaborative actors, build collaborative structures for crime prevention work around the target group in the municipality and test crime prevention efforts at the structural, organizational and individual level.
