In the work of the Church of Sweden, we often meet both people who are far from the labour market and their relatives. These are people who, for various reasons, seek support from us. We see that the consequences of unemployment are serious and that people end up in a downward spiral where the economy, health, relationships, exclusion and unemployment make it more difficult and worse. We also see that long-term unemployment creates structural problems in our society. People in long-term unemployment come further and further from participation and influence opportunities, which in turn increases ill-health and segregation in society. The planned ESF+ project Further with MARY is an update of the previous application (only called "Further") where a number of improvement points have been reviewed. Among other things, the implementation phase has been supplemented with process tools such as Small Steps and a more developed validation methodology according to the MARY model. Throughout, the managers, so-called MARY managers and supervisors of the partners have also been further trained in the MARY method and empowerment. The steering group's work has been clarified and its membership has also been broadened with expertise from the education sector, which provides good conditions for cross-border collaboration between the labour market and the education sector during and after the end of the project . Like the previous application, this application also aims to support people far from the labour market to move one step further towards work. The target group of the project is people who are far from the labour market as a result of physical or mental illness, disability, social difficulties, lack of educational background or lack of knowledge of Swedish. The project will meet people in need who are granted this intervention by the social services. The project will also work with structures around the reception of people in work training within the Church of Sweden. The project is being applied for by the Diocese of Gothenburg, which becomes the project owner. The partners in the project are the six pastorates Lysekil, Tjörn, Romelanda, Nylöse, Mölndal and Partille. The causes of unemployment are complex and can be due to a variety of factors. Individual-level causes may interact with structural-level factors. The most prominent causes can be divided into physical or mental illness, lack of skills and/or exclusion. The project Further with Mary builds on previous efforts in the national project "Create a place", which has primarily developed an approaching methodology for people far from the labour market. In the project, this methodology is combined with activities for increased existential health, something that through the project Create place proved to be an important factor for the target group. The goal of this project is to strengthen individuals far from the labour market to get a few steps closer to the labour market. We also want to create a good organization within the Church of Sweden to strengthen the organization's ability to receive and give people far from the labour market a good internship, which also affects how we interact with authorities and other organizations. Furthermore, we want to be able to identify and highlight factors that can help us build bridges between public and civil actors in order to reduce segregation and exclusion. The main method for receiving people far from the labour market is the MARY method, which is a response method developed within the Church of Sweden at the national level. MARY stands for Meaningfulness, Work Community, Rehabilitation and Vocational Pride. It is used in practice and work training in a parish environment to create quality-assured activities that support the long-term unemployed on their way to employment. The method is based on many years of experience in supporting people who are far from the labour market. All methods used in the project aim to meet the person's needs for personalised, job-focused tasks with elements of activities that promote the person's existential health. The activities in the project will mainly be about work training, conversations in groups and individually, theme meetings and social community. Within the organization, activities will largely be about education and awareness raising of various kinds. The evaluation will be conducted as a follow-up research and will contribute to the project handling challenges on an ongoing basis through the project, which can lead to changes in the set-up at different levels. The evaluator will conduct a dialogue with the project management on the strategic issues that arise. At the end of the project, a dissemination conference will be held, where co-financiers, deacons within the Church of Sweden, partners and organizations that have been part of local reference groups will be invited.
