The provision of skills for welfare is one of the most important issues for the 13 member municipalities in the Gothenburg region (GR) in the coming decade. Particularly in the female-dominated sectors of elderly care and functional support, strong efforts need to be made. In recent years, major investments have been made in the Gothenburg region to meet the challenges of skills supply. Since 2020, GR has been running industry councils in elderly care and recently the social workers in GR municipalities decided to start up an industry council in functional support. In this project, we want to develop and strengthen the structures of the two industry councils for elderly care and functional support, with the aim of meeting the industry's needs for skills provision. The project has identified six different sub-objectives. Elderly care - Support the municipalities' local development and change work with a common career path model - Develop, test and apply a common mentoring model Functional support - Increase knowledge of functional support among the general public and politicians - Improve working conditions in functional support - Develop basic training or develop a new basic training for staff in the performing activities - Differentiate professional roles in functional support further Through the various sub-objectives, structures will be developed that respond to new skills needs and to meet individuals' needs for a stable position in the labour market. The initiatives will also create opportunities for employers to acquire relevant skills and help ensure that the content of training matches the needs of employers. The efforts will be at organisational/structural level as well as skills development efforts aimed at working individuals.
