School Attendance and Attendance

The School Attachment and Presence project will work with initiatives that will lead to more students completing their studies and, in the long term, increase their opportunities to establish themselves in the labour market. The project will support participating schools and activities' systematic work to increase pupils' school ties, promote attendance and strengthen the school staff's ability to respond to pupils at risk. Early and coordinated preventive measures can in the long term increase pupils' chances of completing their studies and establishing themselves in the labour market, while reducing the risk of long-term exclusion. Locally anchored development work will be carried out in four of the Gothenburg region's member municipalities: Ale, Gothenburg, Mölndal and Lerum. The municipalities will, through local sub-projects, develop promotion, prevention and remedial measures to promote attendance and strengthen pupils' school ties. All efforts are based on local needs identified through mapping. The method of local sub-projects increases the conditions for effective working methods and methods to be implemented in the activities after the end of the project. The Goeteborg region as a project promoter will support the local development work throughout the project. This support takes the form of process support activities linked to mapping, implementation, follow-up, evaluation and implementation, and, if necessary, in the form of skills-enhancing initiatives. Process support also focuses on ensuring that efforts and approaches towards the target group are equal, accessible and non-discriminatory. With the age of participants in ESF+ now being lowered to 13 years, it is possible to use the Gothenburg region's long experience and accumulated knowledge from previous development projects to support staff in grades 7-9 as well as in upper secondary school's introduction and vocational programs in developing their work to prevent future study interruptions and promote attendance. This is in order for more students to become eligible for high school and complete their education with a high school diploma.
