In Boden, like Norrbotten as a whole, the need for labour is great in the coming years. The large establishments that take place in Norrbotten and Västerbotten today create many jobs, but not mainly for those who are actually unemployed today. New industries are growing up and demanding their workforce and at the same time new opportunities are blooming in the wake of new start-ups. One such possibility is the growing investment in greenhouses in connection with heat-generating industries. Boden and Norrbotten have relatively low levels of food self-sufficiency, especially in fruit and vegetables, and there are common regional objectives to increase the self-sufficiency rate. Here, large-scale greenhouse cultivation in Boden can be an important piece of the puzzle applicable to other electro-intensive industries in Sweden and the world. There is currently no culture or tradition of large-scale greenhouse cultivation in Boden, nor is there any established ASF. An ASF with a focus on cultivation in the new greenhouses would therefore be an important addition to business and food security while creating jobs for people who are far from the labour market. The goal of the DC Farmers project is for an ASF to start in connection with the project. To get there, we will work with a relatively small group of unemployed individuals who want to explore the possibilities of starting an ASF. We will work according to a training plan and with methods that we have used before at the start of ASF. The training plan consists of three phases where the participants initially work with self-strengthening exercises, then transition to training in plant cultivation and then work with business idea and business plan. Around the process of forming an ASF, a partnership with key support actors will be formed and some of them will also participate in the development of the business idea through a co-creation process in an Accelerator team.
