On the track

The aim of the project is to change the way of working within SFI study route 2 and the other parts of the activities that work with the same target group, i.e. adult education and the labour market administration. The working method needs to be more accurate and efficient in order to achieve a better result in terms of throughput through the various measures leading to the completion of upper secondary vocational education and training and a firm anchorage in the labour market. The different efforts and professional competences that pupils/participants in these target groups encounter from the start need to have a clearer working life perspective and professional orientation. There is a need for more coordination between the different initiatives and for it to become a "red thread" throughout the time students/participants receive initiatives during their first period of establishment in Sweden. This can be achieved by all activities that are part of this chain offering guidance and language-developing approaches as support and the goal being clear that participants will reach upper secondary vocational education and training and enter the labour market. SFI teaching for the target group also needs to be professionally oriented from the very beginning and clearly linked to the continuation in the form of the so-called combination courses at upper secondary level. In the end, all teaching provided by SFI students in Study Path 2 will eventually become professionally oriented and clearly linked to the labour market. Cooperation with the other actors, industry and civil society should be a permanent part of this way of working, which will continue even after the project is completed. Today, a large part of the participants in this target group do not complete their SFI studies and even fewer who are in need of a secondary vocational education complete it despite the fact that a lot of resources from state and municipal sources are being spent on this particular target group. It requires targeted and specially adapted support and working methods and a greater degree of collaboration between different actors for it to succeed and that is the main purpose of our project.
