Having a job is not a given for many young people. Lack of knowledge and role models, lack of processes, prejudices and segregation are just some of the many challenges that a young person can face to get a job. This is reflected in the increasing youth unemployment in Sweden since 2019, where young people in socio-economically vulnerable areas are particularly affected. At the same time, there are social entrepreneurs who have solutions for this, but who often struggle to get long-term financially sustainable models to succeed in disseminating them. This project sees effective cross-sectoral collaboration as a solution to these challenges, a collaboration that promotes a more equal and non-discriminatory labour market for young people. The stakeholders involved all have the potential to solve social problems together in an effective way, but find difficulties in understanding and exploiting each party's prerequisites, strengths and weaknesses. The project is an extension of a previous project funded by the Delegation against Segregation, in which Reach for Change and Right To Play were participating actors, in order to gain insight into existing barriers and develop proposals for new potential collaboration models. Together with Eskilstuna Municipality, we now want to test and develop an effective collaboration model possible for implementation and dissemination in several municipalities. The project brings together Eskilstuna municipality, a brave municipality at the forefront that wants to find a concrete solution to this burning problem, and Right To Play Sweden, a growing organization with a researched and working method for youth inclusion and labour market efforts. The partnership is coordinated by Reach for Change, the main applicant, an organisation with experience in promoting cross-sectoral dialogue linked to the dissemination of social innovation in Sweden. This joint effort will address the individual and organisational challenges of young people far from the labour market. Workshops and capacity-building activities will bring together young leaders and participants to create a empowering attitude and self-esteem to take on the world of work. By conceptualizing, testing and disseminating the collaboration model, we hope to show that it is possible to overcome the increasing youthlessness through effective collaboration. Through this ambitious goal, we want to inspire others to innovative ways of working in effective collaboration, and see great potential for dissemination to other contexts and geographical locations.
