The main objective of the project is the rehabilitation and development of post-mining areas and facilities located in Wałbrzych at ul. P. Wysocki by giving them new economic and social functions (cultural, tourist, educational, leisure and recreational) and restoring biodiversity. The material scope of the project includes carrying out the necessary construction and renovation works within the sorting facility and the railway scale with a connector in the historic complex of the former KWK Julia (including the gallery of the distribution centre for mining trolleys and the gallery of the conveyor belt connecting the sorting facility building with the flotation building, in the part located above the roof of the sorting facility building and the historic machines, equipment and installations located in the sorting facility building), in order to adapt them to museum purposes and make them available in the form of the so-called Sorting Room. ‘permanent ruin’ for visitors (a path will be created to explore the sorting centre building and the railway scale with a connector adapted to the needs of people with disabilities, including through the use of an elevator). As part of the project, a wide range of activities related to the restoration of biodiversity are also planned. As a result of the project, new green areas will be created with numerous new plantings of high and low vegetation: public square by the parking lot, green area with elements of small architecture by the sorting room building and greenery complementing the parking lot. Complementary activities will also be carried out related to the use of RES (installation of a photovoltaic micro-installation 20.50 kWp) and road infrastructure (public parking will be created at the sorting plant building along with the access road from ul. P. Wysocki, which will improve the availability of the above-mentioned areas with new functions). The main socio-economic benefits of the project are: - increasing the attractiveness of the city of Wałbrzych in terms of tourism thanks to the increase in the quality and impact of the cultural offer, which translates into an increase in the number of tourists, - stimulating the professional and economic activity of the inhabitants of the city of Wałbrzych as a result of the development of local business related to tourism (e.g. catering, accommodation, retail trade, passenger transport), which translates into an increase in employment, increased turnover of enterprises and, as a consequence, higher revenues to the city budget, - improving the environmental condition of post-mining areas (improving the condition of ecosystems) and counteracting the greenhouse effect, which translates into an improvement in the health of the local community. The above actions and their effects are consistent with the objectives of the FEDS 2021-2027, in particular the objective FST.CP6.I, as they will contribute to mitigating the social, employment, economic and environmental impacts of the transition towards a climate-neutral EU economy, and with the environmental objective of the TPST, as they provide a coherent, transport-integrated, attractive, high-quality space for residents while respecting environmental resources. The applicant, investor and beneficiary of the project is the Wałbrzych Municipality, a city with county rights, which will be responsible for the project at all its stages: preparation, implementation, settlement and sustainability. The operator of the co-financed infrastructure will be the Applicant: with regard to the public car park with access road and the green square, and the municipal cultural institution - Centrum Nauki, Kultury i Sztuki Stara Kopalnia w Wałbrzych (the ‘CNKSSK’) with regard to the sorting facility and the railway scale with a link (including the distribution gallery for mining trolleys and the conveyor belt gallery) and the green area next to the sorting building. The project lacks partners and implementing entities. The beneficiary will carry out information and promotion activities of the project in accordance with the FEDS 2021-2027 guidelines in the form of information boards at the project implementation site, information about the project on the applicant’s website and marking of project documents.
