Daily Support Centre with Assisted Living for Adults on the Autism Spectrum

The main objective of the partnership project: A DAY SUPPORT CENTER WITH A RESIDENCE TEAM FOR ADULTS FROM THE AUTISM SPECTRUM is to increase the availability of social services personalised to the needs of people on the autism spectrum from the Jastków and Lublin communes by building a daily support centre with a complex of assisted, training and respite apartments. The project concerns the construction of a new innovative building fully adapted to the needs of people with disabilities with a built-up area of 603.8 m2. In the building, apart from assisted, training and respite apartments (7 apartments), a day support centre will be established in which social services will be provided aimed at: rehabilitation, art therapy (art workshops, pottery workshops, carpentry workshops), sensory integration therapy, personal training in the gym / gym; social skills training and occupational therapy. The project is implemented by foundations: Living with Autism Foundation’ (project leader) and ALPHA Foundation (project partner). The investment is a form of achieving statutory objectives, which include: providing comprehensive assistance to persons with autism spectrum disorders and their families, ensuring that living, caring and therapeutic needs are met in accordance with their individual needs, in particular by setting up, running a home or housing centre providing adequate care, and organising or facilitating their work, education, therapy or rehabilitation. The target group are people on the autism spectrum (ASD) who have difficulty making connections and following social rules, as well as understanding other people's reactions and emotions, and often express their own feelings in an unusual way. The most important need of these people is therapy and rehabilitation that allows them to better understand the world around them and, in the case of autistic adults, a place that allows them to train for independence under the supervision of a qualified caregiver, including in the form of assisted, training and respite housing. Self-reliant adults with ASD require constant supervision and care from others. Most often, these are parents who, at some point in their lives, cannot provide appropriate care to those in need. Assisted, training and respite apartments are a response to the needs of carers and parents of people with disabilities, they will allow to conduct diagnostic and therapeutic activities to prepare users to lead an independent life in society. A wide range of therapy and personal training as a dedicated form of support for people with ASD is a need for both the people affected by the disorder and their loved ones. A daily support house dedicated to autistic people is an answer to the needs of both residents. Lublin and Jastkowo, as well as the entire province, because there are no such entities in the region. Foundations: “Living with autism” and “ALPHA” in this project want to help both people with ASD and their carers in the process of emancipation, therapy and care. The founders and the Board of the Foundation note the lack of dedicated support from the State and the poor range of social services offered.
