In 2024, the GMP completed an investment that refurbished and rebuilt the historic buildings of the former railway station and water tower to serve as a museum of the Płońsk land and a planetarium and observatory. A housing base was created for the needs of running these facilities. This project aims to equip them in order to diversify the cultural offer available to the inhabitants of Płońsk and the surrounding area. The most important task will be the preparation and execution of permanent exhibitions in the museum and observatory and the purchase of equipment for the facilities. The project also plans to: preparing the museum's website, making the educational and cultural offer available on-line, implementing an electronic visitor counting system for the supported facilities, preparing staff for new tasks, increasing the biodiversity of the greenery surrounding the buildings. The implementation of the project results from the problems diagnosed in FEM: the need to invest in the cultural sector and ensure the sustainability of the financing of its activities, increase the diversity of the cultural offer, increase the use of the potential of the cultural sector for the development of creative industries and increase the competitiveness of the region. The main objective of the project is to improve the quality of life of the inhabitants of Płońsk and its surroundings. It will be implemented through specific objectives: increasing access to high-quality social services in the field of culture and education, increasing competences and skills (including digital) and adapting to changes in workers, increasing the availability of the cult-education offer for people with special needs, supporting lifelong learning and active ageing through the possibility of using the new cult-education offer. Activities under the project will focus on the development of infrastructure for cultural activities important for education and cultural activity, which will allow to increase the diversity of the cultural sector in Płońsk, its potential, and consequently contribute to the increase of its financial stability by diversifying sources of income. The implementation of the project is in line with the objectives of the FEM 2021-2027: SO 4(d) supporting the adaptation of workers (...) to change, supporting active and healthy ageing and a healthy and well-adapted working environment (...) SO 4(f) supporting equal access to and completion of quality, inclusive education and training (...), as well as adult education and learning (...) SO 4(g) supporting lifelong learning, in particular (...) digital competences (...) The project results from the Development Strategy of the Municipality of Płońsk until 2030+ (https://plonsk.pl/strategia.html, p. 21), where in the direction of action No 2.7. The use of cultural, historical and cultural heritage resources for the development of the city includes, among others, the following tasks: - development and execution of permanent and temporary exhibitions in museum facilities in Płońsk (including the House of Remembrance and the Museum of the Płońsk Land, observatory and planetarium), - purchase of equipment for the Laboratory of Documentation of the History of the City of Płońsk, the House of Remembrance, the Museum of the Płońsk Land, observatory and planetarium, - digitization and development of e-services in all cultural facilities, - acquisition of cultural heritage resources for museum facilities in Płońsk. The project results from the Płońsk Revitalization Program (included in the List of PRWM), where in the basic project No. XI/P entitled "Save from oblivion - Płońsk on the pages of history" is written on page. 106 (https://plonsk.pl/plonski-program-revitalization.html) that "The project assumes the use of both the collections of the City and private owners of souvenirs and photos from old times. On the basis of these resources, as well as using resources held by other institutions, permanent and temporary exhibitions will be created in cultural institutions operating in the city of Płońsk." The project does not require obtaining any administrative decisions.
