Power Saving - Innovative software to increase the energy efficiency of the base station and 5G radio platform

The aim of the Nokia Solutions and Networks sp. z o.o. project (hereinafter: NSN, Applicant, Company) is developing a nationally innovative system that will contribute to the implementation of energy-efficient solutions in NSN products. In the first place, software will be developed that will be integrated with the AVOx radio platform based on modern SoC (System on Chip) and ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit) systems. This will reduce electricity consumption and improve the efficiency of the entire infrastructure. The software will focus on energy-efficient processing and optimization of resource consumption while providing exceptional reliability in a wide range of configurations. Secondly, the project aims to develop a system consisting of software functionality of base stations and radio heads, which are aimed at reducing the energy intensity of the base station (BTS). NSN plans to make changes to load control algorithms by silencing, sleeping, or shutting down components. Energy-saving features will use the built-in hardware capabilities of devices that can put components to sleep (e.g., reduce polarity current) when not in use. The new software will allow you to balance the demand for electricity and reduce resources by temporarily turning them off during a period of low traffic. It will be characterized by lower energy consumption, reduction of waste energy associated with the dissipated heat of electronic components, using the full hardware capabilities of existing electronic chips to reduce power consumption, improve system reliability, reduce failures. New functionalities developed as part of the project will eliminate losses related to BTS downtime caused by critical errors, errors affecting the decrease in bandwidth, or the lack of radio transmission in the cell invisible to the operator (sleeping cell).
