Development and verification in real conditions of technologies for the production of mineral-asphalt mixtures at reduced process temperatures.

The aim of the project is to develop a new technology for the production of mineral-asphalt mixture (mma) for heat using a two-component mineral additive, which will be used in road construction. The project introduces an innovative technology for producing improved recycled mineral-asphalt mixtures, lowering production temperatures and having a positive impact on the environment. Patent applicant P.433579 plans to develop a patent-based technology to produce a mixture from waste materials such as used engine oil and recycled road surface aggregate. The mixture will be characterized by increased frost resistance and reduced stiffness. In Poland, mineral-asphalt mixtures for recycled heat with recovered asphalt improved rheological properties and with asphalt foamed with zeolites are not used. Construction, including road construction, is one of the main sources of CO2 emissions and other harmful pollutants. In order to reduce these emissions, the applicant shall explore possibilities for greener production of mma by lowering process temperatures. The main benefits of such an approach are a reduction in CO2 emissions, a reduction in exhaust emissions, a reduction in the energy intensity of the production process, greater use of bituminous destruction and an improvement in the quality of road surfaces. The applicant identified three research problems: dispensing recycled oils to recycled aggregates, determining the proportion of water to zeolites as foaming medium and checking the possibility of incorporation of new mma on the road construction site. The solution to these problems must meet the conditions for the use of the target mma, such as reduced energy intensity, reduction of pollutant emissions, the possibility of waste disposal, the use of recycled aggregates and compliance with the conditions for road operation.
