A groundbreaking service to discover new small molecule drugs targeting mRNA for incurable diseases

The subject of the Project is the development of an innovative service revolutionizing the process of discovering new drugs. The possibility of identifying compounds capable of binding to mRNA will allow to inhibit or limit the process of synthesis of pathogenic proteins, which may create a completely new therapeutic approach compared to current methods. Such a solution can be a real breakthrough for pharmaceutical companies, while giving hope to patients with previously incurable diseases, i.e. neurodegenerative diseases or some cancer or rare diseases. The scope of the project includes industrial research (identification and verification of small molecule compounds interacting with selected mRNA regions – ‘hits’ and obtaining advanced compounds with the desired physicochemical and pharmacological parameters – ‘leads’) as well as development works (verification of results and process validation confirming the functionality of the solution). The result of the Project will be an innovative service enabling the identification of compounds with high therapeutic potential, acting on the basis of direct interaction with human mRNA, which opens up new scientific perspectives, while creating a new market. The developed service will be based on mRNA structural biology, and computational and experimental methods will be used in the process of designing potential drugs and in the analysis of mRNA structure and functions. The result of the Project will be implemented by introducing the Applicant to the activity, who will provide services to entities from the bio-pharmaceutical industry operating both on the global market, including in Poland. The small molecule compounds identified and developed as part of the service will be used by direct recipients to develop medicines for diseases that currently do not have an effective therapy or are considered incurable.
