Development of the urban rainwater management system in Sopot – Phase I

The main objective of the project entitled The ‘Development of the urban rainwater management system in Sopot – Phase I’ is: ‘Reduce the impact of extreme meteorological events, in particular heavy rainfall, by adapting the city of Sopot to changing climatic conditions, by increasing rainwater retention and expanding the rainwater sewerage system.’ The main objective is directly linked to the objective of measure 1.2. Priority I FEnIKS: ‘Fostering climate change adaptation and disaster risk prevention, as well as resilience, taking into account an ecosystem-based approach’. The implementation of the Project will also contribute to the following specific objectives: • Strengthen the resilience of the city of Sopot to the risks associated with the negative effects of climate change and increase the capacity to prevent natural hazards, in particular flooding, by slowing down the outflow caused by heavy rainfall; • Increase the retention capacity of rainwater and allow its use in dry periods for watering greenery and irrigation; • Improving the quality of the environment by reducing uncontrolled run-off. The material scope of the Project includes the construction of rainwater sewerage, the construction of retention tanks and a small retention facility, as part of the following tasks: Task 1. The task includes the construction and reconstruction of the urban rainwater drainage system in the parking lot of the Sopot City Hall along with the reconstruction of road surfaces after the works. It is also planned to build 5 retention, underground and canal reservoirs. Rainwater collected in tanks will be used to water urban greenery. Task 2. Execution of a small retention facility in the square located between ul. Home Army and Al. Independence The task includes the construction of a small retention facility, receiving rainwater not included in the rainwater sewage network, coming from surface runoff in the catchment area gravitating to the Karlikowski Stream in the green urban space located at the intersection of Armii Krajowej and Al. Independence, on the route of the section of the Karlikowski Stream between Reja Pond and Al. Independence. As part of the project, the Municipality of Sopot plans to carry out the following information, promotion and education activities: •Information tables (2 pcs.), •Press publications in the free quarterly "Recipe na Sopot" (description of individual stages of project implementation together with photographic documentation) (4 pcs.), •Inclusion of information on the progress of project implementation on the website of the city of Sopot (description of individual stages of project implementation together with photographic documentation) (6 pcs.). •An educational campaign to raise public awareness of flood protection and climate change, and the management and management of drinking water, which will result in greater public involvement in environmental and climate action. The task involves publishing content on the city of Sopot’s website and in the free quarterly ‘Recipe na Sopot’. The status of preparation of the Project at the date of submission of the application is as follows: -Task 1 (Construction of rainwater sewerage in the parking lot at the Town Hall): The investment has a building permit – final decision No UA.6740.337.3.2016.DZ.8 of the Mayor of the City of Sopot of 12 December 2016, together with amendments resulting from final decision No UA.6740.252.1.2019.DZ.8 of 15 October 2019 and final decision No UA.6740.70.2022.DZ, letter No 70-1/8 of 20 May 2022 – Task 2 (Execution of a small retention facility in the square located between ul. Home Army and Al. Independence. The small retention facility will be implemented for the notification of works - planned submission of the notification: 01.05.2024
