The aim of the project is to protect endangered species and natural habitats in situ by restoring and protecting river ecosystems, water-dependent habitats and endangered species in the Parsęty Basin Natura 2000 site PLH320007. The project will be implemented in cooperation with the Union of Cities and Municipalities of the Parsęta River Basin (ZMiGDP - Applicant) and the S. Sakowicz Inland Fisheries Institute - National Research Institute (IRŚ-PIB, Authorised Entity). Main tasks of the project: 1. Design and execution of a clever sequence in the main riverbed of the Parsęta River (a total of 11 prisms) over a distance of 65 km. 2. Design and restoration of the 5.7 km section of Parsęta transformed by human activity - restoration of the Parsęta run to the natural riverbed at the mouth of Pokrzywnica. 3. Investor supervision. 4. Strengthen the Atlantic salmon population (1106 Salmo salar) by stocking with a hatching of 100% from salmon harvested from Parsęta. 5. Protection of habitats. The task of the guards will be to combat poaching, reduce pressure from fishing and tourism, and detect potential environmental risks – illegal discharges of pollutants, discharges from fields, presence of invasive species of flora and fauna, etc. 6. Determination of the production volume of natural Atlantic salmon in Parsęta on the basis of smolt catches. As part of the task, a rotary trap for catching salmon smolts will be purchased, which will be mounted at a Carinthian height below the threshold. 7. The study of mortality and the rate of run-off of smolts to the sea using acoustic telemetry. 8. Monitoring ichthyofauna and fry density of salmonids on sections subject to renaturation and the construction of clever fish. 9. Genetic analysis of smolts caught in a rotary trap. The task will consist in analyzing the genetic variation among individuals who decided to smoltify and sailed into the sea. 10. Information and promotion of the project (ZMiGDP in cooperation with IRŚ-PIB). In addition to the obligatory inf.-prom. activities, the following educational and promotional activities are planned: - educational workshops - information boards, educational - spot promoting the project - taking professional photos - series of 3 Eco-picnics. 11. Project management (within indirect costs) (ZMiGDP and IRŚ-PIB). For the purpose of preparing the project in the field of investments related to the construction of clever and renaturation of a part of the river, the PFU was prepared together with cost estimates. In addition, PGW Wody Polskie has obtained a declaration on making available the property on which the planned investment works are located for the duration of the project and its durability in the form of a usufruct agreement. The project received a positive opinion from the RDOŚ in Szczecin regarding compliance with the Priority Action Framework (PAF). In addition, the above-mentioned authority stated that the planned measures are not contrary to the Temporary conservation objectives established for the Parsęta River Basin Area PLH320007, and the measures planned in the project serve well to achieve the objectives set: - increasing biodiversity (mainly in the aspect of ichthyofauna), - improving the morphological status of the river (improving the conservation status of habitat 3260 as well as the habitat conditions of ichthyofauna), - restoring morphological continuity between the regulated Parsęta riverbed and the cut-off natural riverbed (multifunctional action to improve the conservation status of all listed habitats (3150, 3260, 91E0, 91F0) and species (1096, 1106,1163,1149, 11099), - slowing down the drainage of water from the basin along with stabilising water levels and reducing river erosion (flood prevention and mitigating the effect of possible drought). The actions to be implemented under this project will contribute, inter alia, to: - increasing the number of spawning areas, - restoring the natural character of rivers and creating new habitats important for the development of species populations, - improving the ecological status of flowing waters.
