The ongoing dual (health and climate) crisis, referred to by scientists as the planetary crisis, is a major threat to human health. The current situation fulfils all three conditions necessary for the WHO to consider it a ‘state of international public health concern’. It is serious and unusual, has public health implications beyond national borders and requires immediate action. Key points to be addressed first are exploring alternative visions of good quality of life, rethinking consumption and waste management, changing human-nature values, reducing social inequalities, and promoting education and science. Therefore, it is extremely important to educate the public about the role of nature conservation and biodiversity conservation. The above premises, as well as the demographic situation of Poland, motivate the State Forests to increase the social function of the forest and expand the educational offer. Only shaping the right pro-ecological attitudes and raising awareness that these actions can be effective in the fight against the crises described above can bring the desired results. Forests play a key role in maintaining the sustainability of life on our planet. Proper preservation of the state of the forest is crucial for the protection and conservation of the resources of the plant and animal world. Thus, both the biodiversity of the natural environment, not just the forest, and the preservation of the biological potential of most ecosystems and species – the basis for the sustainability of life on our planet – depend crucially on the presence and health status of forests. Forests, including primarily those with primary or natural characteristics, are among the richest species-rich terrestrial ecosystems in the world. The main goal is to raise the ecological awareness of seniors and children and youth by launching an intergenerational forest school in the period from 2025 to 2027 and implementing educational activities in the Małopolska, Świętokrzyskie and Mazowieckie provinces. Specific objectives: 1. Strengthening environmental protection processes and supporting climate action, through capacity and knowledge building among project participants on sustainable forests and the role and importance of forests in climate change adaptation. 2. Development of LP's offer in the field of education and experience of nature. 3. Raising public awareness of the rational and responsible use of forest functions and shaping pro-environmental attitudes with particular emphasis on the importance of forest ecosystems and forestry (e.g. by organizing educational meetings, social actions), 4. Deepening knowledge about the idea of sustainable development and development of methodological competences of people participating in the intergenerational forest school. 5. Inclusion of seniors – future volunteers – in active educational activities aimed at children and young people – intergenerational integration for the creation of pro-ecological attitudes and the use of natural authority and life experience. 6. Increase the use of traditional (manual) and native forest-related knowledge and strengthen its links with scientific knowledge. 7. Increasing the level of knowledge of seniors, raising their awareness about cause-effect relationships and the interaction of the natural environment on quality and health. 8. Disseminating knowledge about the ecological lifestyle, including the implementation of environmental protection techniques in the daily life of seniors. 9. Implementation of holistic thinking skills, consisting in understanding the relationship between the state and quality of the human life environment, including the natural environment, and psycho-physical health. The exchange of knowledge, experience and good practices within the project will result in building a policy of active and healthy ageing with the active participation of a wide range of stakeholders.
