Reconstruction of the Siołkowa - Nowy Sącz gas pipeline

The project of reconstruction of the Siołkowa - Nowy Sącz gas pipeline concerns the construction of a new high-pressure gas pipeline DN300 MOP 5.5 MPa in place of the existing DN200 gas pipeline, together with the accompanying infrastructure necessary to operate it. The aim of the modernization of the Siołkowa - Nowy Sącz gas pipeline is to increase the capacity of the pipeline and increase the efficiency of gas supplies to the Nowy Sącz area. Replacing the infrastructure with a new one will translate directly into a reduction in the costs associated with the current renovation economy. The new pipeline will enable an increase in the volume of gas transported, which will allow for further expansion of the gas distribution network and connecting new customers in the area of the investment. The existing pipeline was built in 1963/1964. The technical condition of the pipeline is systematically deteriorating due to its long service life. Existing dam fittings on dam-discharge units do not guarantee the closure of the gas flow. The assembly work on the existing pipeline was carried out by gas welding, which does not meet today's quality standards in the field of welding. During switching works on pipelines, welding incompatibilities were found on welded joints, which do not guarantee the required strength. On the route of the pipelines there are active landslides, welding defects can have a significant impact on the behavior of the pipelines in the event of activation of landslides. Sections of the pipelines were subjected to electrical intensive tests, which showed defects in isolation. Since 2007, the technical condition of the Siołkowa – Nowy Sącz gas pipeline has deteriorated (decreases in isolation have been detected, corrosive outbreaks affect the resulting leaks of the pipeline). In the town of Paszyn in 2011, as a result of the resulting disposal, the DN200 gas pipeline was discontinued. On the crossings of the pipeline of watercourses, the pipeline was washed out, which did not guarantee the safe use of the pipeline. The reconstruction of the existing DN200 pipeline into a new gas pipeline with a larger diameter DN300 will contribute to ensuring the security of gas supply to existing customers and covering the demand for the forecasted increase in demand for natural gas in the area of the Project's impact. The need to implement the Project results from the fact that the technical condition and capacity of the existing pipeline do not ensure security of supply for existing customers and limit the possibility of gasification of further localities located in the area of implementation of the Project, characterized by the lack of a gas network, thus limiting the access to gaseous fuel for residents and entities operating in this area of the Project. The problems are described in the Feasibility Study in chapter 3.1.2. Failure to implement the Project will result in the inability to connect new customers in a wide area of activity (including further planned investments dependent on the investment presented in this application in the directions of Muszyna and Krynica). This is due to the fact that there is currently insufficient capacity to increase the supply of gaseous fuel to the newly planned sections of the distribution network.
