Works on railway line No 38 on the section Ełk – Giżycko with electrification - phase II

The project ‘Works on railway line No 38 on the section Ełk – Giżycko with electrification – phase II’ includes the remaining works and fees related to the modernisation of the section of 1-track railway line No 38 on the section Ełk – Giżycko. The project includes in particular: • the remaining part of the construction works on the section Ełk (without station) – Giżycko (with station), i.e. from km 103,994 to km 152,752 of line No 38, which were not carried out under Phase I. • investor supervision of the construction works of Phase II; • author's supervision over Phase II construction works; • other parts of the charge for connecting traction substations: Elk, Stare Juchy, Siedliska, Sterławki Małe, Kętrzyn, Korsze; • the remainder of the land purchase for the Ełk – Giżycko section. The project will be implemented as part of the following tasks: • Activity 1 – Construction works; • Activity 2 – Investor supervision; • Tasks 3 – Author's supervision; • Activity 4 – Connection agreements; • Activity 5 – Land purchase. The project will be implemented in the Build formula by the Investment Implementation Center Northern Region, in the Warmińsko-Mazurskie voivodship in the Ełk, Giżycko and Kętrzyn counties, communes: Elk, Giżycko, Kętrzyn and Korsze. The above actions will result in the improvement of technical parameters, including the achievement of technical parameters enabling the passage of passenger trains at a speed of V=160 km/h and freight trains at a speed of V=120 km/h at a axle load of 221 kN (22.5 t), as well as the optimization of operating costs and the improvement of the quality of railway services. This will reduce the travel time of passengers and goods and increase the capacity of railway lines. The project will result in the full electrification functionality of the Ełk – Giżycko section, resulting in a output indicator of 48.758 km ‘Length of reconstructed or modernised railway lines – TEN-T’. The solutions adopted in the Project enable the implementation of the ERTMS system in the future. The project is part of a larger project involving the modernisation (including electrification) of the Elk – Korsze section. In addition to Phase I and Phase II of the project ‘Work on railway line No 38 on the section Ełk – Giżycko with electrification’, the project ‘Work on railway line No 38 on the section Giżycko – Korsze with electrification’, financed under the National Recovery Plan, is an integral part of the Undertaking. The project ‘Work on railway line No 38 on the section Ełk – Giżycko including electrification – phase II’ fulfils the objectives of the FEnIKS operational programme Specific objective 3.2 Development and improvement of sustainable, climate-resilient, intelligent and intermodal mobility at national, regional and local level, including improving access to TEN-T and cross-border mobility. The project meets the objectives of Measure 05.04 Railway, urban railway and railway safety, through the construction, reconstruction and modernization of railway lines, including the construction or modernization of: • railway stations and stops, • traction power supply and overhead contact line systems, • rail traffic control systems, • systems improving the management of passenger transport and improving safety in rail and freight passenger traffic, • engineering structures.
