Development of technology for the production of pro-environmental composite materials with increased thermal insulation and bacteriostatic and fungistatic properties, dedicated to the construction industry.

The subject of the R&D project: The development of technology for the production of pro-environmental composite materials with increased thermal insulation and bacteriostatic and fungistatic properties, dedicated to the construction industry, is to increase the R&D activity of Piero Composites Sp. z o.o. by conducting industrial research and experimental development works necessary to develop the technology for the production of a group of pro-environmental composite materials with increased thermal insulation and bacteriostatic and fungistatic properties involving silica-based raw materials, including waste materials such as microspheres constituting a fraction of fly ash (UPS – by-products of combustion). The obtained results will enable the production of thermal insulation materials in the form of plates, mats and coatings. The developed materials will be especially suitable for use as selected layers of building partitions, such as external walls and for joinery as elements of the so-called warm assembly or as inserts constituting additional equipment of profiles. Project assumptions: 1. The developed group of thermal insulation materials will include three forms, i.e.: boards, mats and coating systems. 2. The method of manufacturing thermal insulation materials will be relatively simple, and the group of thermal insulation materials will be developed with the participation of similar main functional components, in order to optimize production and storage processes. 3. Recipes will be created taking into account the positive impact on the environment in terms of the management of combustion by-products and other waste and/or post-consumer materials. 4. The developed materials will be characterized by good thermal insulation parameters and relatively good resistance to the water environment. The heat transfer coefficient of the developed recipes λ ≤ 0.03 W/m*K, which will allow competition in the segment of advanced thermal insulation materials. 5. The surfaces of the developed materials will be characterized by a reduced susceptibility to the multiplication of microorganisms. 6. The production of selected recipes will be possible with the participation of typical processing equipment, such as a press, extruder, injection moulding machine, mixer, spraying equipment or with their slight modification. The project will be implemented in the period 01.09.2024 - 31.05.2026. The activities planned as part of the project will focus on the implementation of plans for R&D works of the enterprise and will affect the development of smart regional specialization, specified in the Regional Innovation Strategy of the Opolskie Voivodeship 2030. The project assumes the implementation of 4 tasks: Phase I – Industrial research into the development of a range of formulations of thermal insulation materials involving natural and waste raw materials enabling application in the form of a coating, mat and solid, i.e. one that allows the formation of plates or other fittings; Stage II – Industrial research on the development of formulations of additives with antimicrobial activity, potentially complementary to the developed formulations of thermal insulation materials; Stage III – Industrial research on the development of a range of thermal insulation materials in the form of a coating, mat and solid fittings, taking into account the method of modifying selected thermal insulation recipes in order to obtain bacteriostatic and fungistatic surfaces and Stage IV – Experimental development work on optimising the obtained materials in the form of a coating, mat and solid, together with an analysis of the main performance properties, in particular in the field of mechanical and thermal insulation properties. The result of the project will be product and process innovation, allowing to produce a product with better parameters than currently offered products on the market. The implementation of the project responds to the identified needs of the Applicant.
