Protection of biodiversity in Głubczyce County

This project responds to a call launched under Policy Objective 2: European Funds for Clean Energy and Environmental Protection in the Opolskie Voivodship, Measure 2.6 Protection of Biodiversity. The main objective of the project is to protect the biodiversity of the Głubczyce district through the development of green infrastructure in urban and non-urban areas based on native species. The project includes the creation of an avenue of native fruit trees and firehouses, constituting the habitat of birds under strict species protection in Poland, as well as carrying out promotional and educational activities in the field of biodiversity protection among the inhabitants of the southern subregion. The subject of the project will be a number of interrelated tasks aimed at securing against horizontal threats: - biodiversity loss and ecosystem degradation, - climate change, - environmental pollution. In achieving these goals, the project responds to the main assumptions of the EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030, which outlines the need to protect and restore biodiversity, combat climate change and reduce pollution as key elements of sustainable development and environmental protection. The planned actions will be hard and soft: 1) creation of an avenue of native fruit trees and remises of thorny and spiky shrubs in the Głubczyce district (including development of a planting project, tender documentation and implementation of plantings) 2) promotion and educational activities in the field of biodiversity among residents of the Głubczyce and Prudnice districts (workshops on tree planting techniques, a competition on biodiversity with prizes in the form of seedlings of native fruit trees, installation of an educational path and small architecture objects in the Wet-Left Protected Landscape Area), 3) assembly of tables informing about co-financing of the task from EU funds at the places of creation of the avenue and path. All these elements of the project are closely interlinked and aim not only to protect local species and habitats, but also to educate and involve the local community in nature conservation activities. The tasks provided for in the project are a consequence of the experience undertaken so far by the partners in the project and an analysis of the needs in terms of biodiversity protection throughout the region, with particular emphasis on the Głubczyce district. According to the assumed assumption, the project fits into type 3b projects: Development of green-blue infrastructure, through investments in green infrastructure in urban and non-urban areas based on native species (e.g. ecological corridors, trees, parks, traditional orchards).
