The bison route through Eastern Poland

The project aims to educate and raise awareness about biodiversity with a particular focus on bison as a species of exceptional importance for the ecosystem. As part of the implementation of the project in 2025-2029, we plan a campaign to raise awareness of local communities in eastern Poland about the needs and methods of nature protection, with particular emphasis on the bison population. It is also extremely important to build the administrative capacity of entities carrying out tasks aimed at protecting biodiversity (local governments, rdoś, GDOŚ) in order to better manage and implement activities in the field of active nature protection. We plan to achieve these goals by organizing: 1) a nature exhibition (5 exhibitions) in 5 regions of Eastern Poland, i.e. Białowieża Forest District, Hajnówka Forest District, Augustów Forest District, Janów Lubelski Forest District, Stuposiany Forest District, 2) educational workshops in primary schools in eastern Poland (200 hours - 6000 children) conducted by trained educators, based on worksheets prepared as part of the project, 3) field workshops for nature administration (rdoś, GDOŚ, local governments) as a platform for dialogue between experts and practitioners with officials, 4) regular outdoor events on nature issues (Browsk bison day, Supraśl, Waliły, Borki, What in the woods of crumble? N. Białowieża, field game "The trail of the bison on a glass" in the Forest Districts of Hajnówka, Gołdap, Borki, Janów Lubelski, Stuposiany and Augustów) promoting nature conservation and ecosystem services in the regions of eastern Poland among both its residents and tourists, 5) open meetings of naturalists' experts with the local community aimed at natural education of adult residents and prevention of conflicts between nature and man by explaining, among others, methods of preventing damage or obtaining financial assistance for losses caused by wild animals. During our educational activities, we will benefit from years of experience and educational assistance that we plan to purchase as part of the project. In order to increase the reach of our activities, we plan promotional campaigns. We plan to promote our activities through various information channels, i.e. advertising events in public transport and radio, posters, information campaign on the Internet. The axis of the promotion of project activities will be determined by a uniform visual identification (educational boards in the shape and size of the bison) "The bison trail". For visiting all places on the trail, attractive prizes will be provided, e.g. a board game "On the bison slide" developed for the project and sets of educational materials. The bison trail will cover all forests in eastern Poland, where bison, i.e. Białowieża, Knyszyńska, Borecka, Augustowska, Romincka Forest, Janowskie Forests, Bieszczady Mountains. For this purpose, 10 forest districts were invited to participate in the project, i.e. Białowieża Forest District, Browsk, Hajnówka, Waliły, Supraśl, Borki, Augustów, Gołdap, Janów Lubelski, Stuposiany, representing the State Forests. In order to ensure equal opportunities and non-discrimination within the project, we plan to undertake a number of activities, e.g. developing and printing a booklet in Polish and Ukrainian, aimed not only at natural science education but also at learning Polish by Ukrainian children living in our country. In addition, both the website and planned events will be available to people with special needs. Over 200 years of university tradition as well as several years of experience in reaching for EU funds and the implementation and settlement of these projects with success, as well as the selection of appropriate partners for the project are a guarantee of reliability and professional conduct of the tasks planned under the project.
