The aim of the project is to build the city's resilience to climate change, introduce sustainable rainwater management and mitigate the effects of climate change, primarily droughts and local floods. 284/4, part of Stepnica 1. During the development of the square, it is planned to apply permeable surfaces and create a rain garden with the use of plantings of native vegetation. The square is divided into three levels rising towards the existing pedestal. Thanks to this, it will be possible to use a water retention system from the surface in case of higher rainfall. The water will be stored in a rain garden, which will collect rainwater from an area of about 180 m2 and will have an area of about 45 m2. With a depression of about 0.5 m, it will be able to accumulate about 20 m3 of water at the same time. Without this garden, part of the water would be in the urban rainwater system, as is currently the case with increased rainfall. The planned greenery will be an important element of the development of this place. High greenery will form islands of shade and cold during hot days. Perennials and ornamental plants will be planted in specially prepared stands in the created basin. In this way I will be exposed and at the same time it will facilitate their care. Among the proposed plants, there are cover plants that will form the background for trees and higher-growing plants. As a screen will be used climbers stretched on the designed pergola. They will provide shade for the places sitting around the square. The vegetation of the rain garden will consist mainly of hydrophyte plants that not only endure flooding and periods of drought, but also have the ability to capture, retain and decompose harmful substances in rhizomes or roots. Both greenery and the water retention system are integrated actions related to the effects of climate change. The vegetation used will not be an invasive alien species. The greenery project made for the area under the project takes into account the location of plantings and their impact on the immediate surroundings. When planting in accordance with the project, the vegetation used will not adversely affect the immediate surroundings, including existing buildings. The most important stages of the project are the development of project documentation, which has already taken place. Subsequently, a contractor for land development works will be selected through a public procurement procedure. A supervisory inspector responsible for the proper implementation of the construction works will be employed. As part of the project, information and promotion activities will be carried out. These actions will be in line with Regulation (EU) 2021/1060 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 24 June 2021 and the ‘Handbook on information and publicity for the applicant and beneficiary of European Funds 2021-2027’. An information board will be installed on the plot on which the project will be implemented in the centre of Stepnica, and a description of the project will be posted on the website of the Municipality of Stepnica. All project products will be accessible to all users, including persons with disabilities in accordance with accessibility standards appropriate to the scope of the project (including the concept of universal design), without any discrimination. The project takes into account the needs of different social groups. For the disabled and the elderly - a place of rest, no architectural barriers, benches, the possibility of entering a wheelchair and a baby stroller. The scope of the project was consulted with the local community, especially the mayors and councillors.
