Revalorization of the White Eagle Square and a fragment of Koński Kierat street between Staromłyńska and Mariacka streets in the area of the Old Town in Szczecin

The investment area is located within the Old Town of Szczecin and includes Orła Białygo Square, part of Staromłyńska Street on the section from Grodzka Street to the intersection with Koński Kierat and Łaziebna Streets, part of Koński Kierat Street on the section from Staromłyńska Street to Mariacka Street and the northern sidewalk of ul. Grodzka on the length of the White Eagle. It is planned to create an attractive, accessible public space that fits into the historical context of the Old Town, taking into account historical strata: 1) the hardened northern part of Pl. White Eagle on the width of the Palace under the Globus with a central point in the form of a fountain - providing convenient conditions for the organization of social and cultural events and the operation of commercial premises in the ground floors, 2) the green southern part in the outline of the former quarter of development - ensuring the implementation of ecological functions, free recreation of users and the organization of occasional social and cultural events around a small stage in the approximate location and outline of the former steering mill, 3) the transitional part in front of the Ionian Palace, which is a zone softening the border between the representative northern part and the green, recreational southern part, 4) the historic Koński Kierat street - providing service of commercial premises in the ground floors, supplemented with new planting of high and low greenery and educational value in the form of marking the course of the former water supply, 5) a promenade in the eastern part of the White Eagle Square, constituting a transformed continuous linking the former Rynki and Kolowski square, the northern side of the White Eagle, constituting the entirety. STAGES OF THE PROJECT: Development of design documentation, obtaining consents (completed). Selection of the contractor and signature of the works contract (completed). Execution of works, partial acceptance, investor supervision (ongoing). Completion of works, final acceptance, notification to construction supervision and settlement of investments (not started). The project includes the revaluation of the land entered in the register of monuments (Decision No KI.O.I.-3/52 No 1 of 28.11.1952), which directly contributes to the protection of cultural heritage. In addition, the Flora sculptural group and the fountain with eagle sculpture are subject to conservation protection. The project aims to give and develop cultural and tourist functions for this area, which is in line with the type of project defined in 7.1. FEPZ. The revaluation of the area will contribute to increasing participation in culture and making public space available to residents and tourists. The project does not plan to build new roads or car parks. The new communication system assumes minimizing the traffic of motor vehicles. Only the movement of supplies to catering establishments, commuting to the property, occasional transport of equipment for social and cultural events on the square, as well as commuting services are allowed. Physical locks are introduced in the entrance area in the form of granite bollards and automatic bollards. All parking spaces will be removed. The area will be a public space accessible primarily to people on foot, including those with special needs and those riding a bicycle. Achieving and maintaining the result indicator will be possible by: 1) improving the functionality of public space; 2) increasing the attractiveness of tourism; 3) organization of cultural events; 4) preservation of historical elements; 5) Improved accessibility.
