The aim of the project is to develop and implement a new comprehensive model of respite tourism thanks to cooperation with a transnational partner. Tourism and recreation as a form of activity of people with disabilities (DPA) is an important therapeutic measure compensating for the state of disability and serving social integration, increases the efficiency of the body and improves the mental state. Respite tourism is one form of social tourism and its social objective is to simultaneously improve the well-being of both OzN and its caregiver. Therefore, respite tourism combines tourism with additional support for caregivers. Respite tourism in our country is at an initial stage of development. The great interest in this form of support is evidenced by the fact that the National Respite Tourism Network (OSTW) was established in 2022. It brings together people and entities involved in social tourism and those responsible for the implementation and implementation of various forms of respite care for NSAs and their families. The national partner in the project will be the Pretty Stories Foundation - the originator and coordinator of the network, an organization with extensive experience in organizing respite trips for entire OzN families. In the world, social tourism, of which respite tourism is a part, has been known for many years. The International Organization for Social Tourism was founded in 1963. Inclusion of a foreign partner: Fundación Tambien will allow you to use experiences / ideas / solutions that work well in other countries. As part of the project, a respite tourism model will be developed and tested, addressed to organizations providing such services. It will take into account the needs and opportunities of people with different types of disabilities and their carers of different ages, health and life situations. It will include guidelines for activities carried out in different types of areas (urban, mountain, water, forest areas, etc.), it will refer to respite tourism services of different lengths. The development of the model will be preceded by in-depth quantitative and qualitative research. Focusing activities primarily on the caregivers of OzN is a novelty in Poland, where so far respite tourism projects have focused on OzN, and the caregiver has either accompanied this person as part of one program of classes or did not participate in the trip at all. Implementation of the developed model is the task of the staff of organizations conducting respite tourism - project grantees. The staff of these entities, participating in the project, will acquire the necessary competences in the field of respite tourism: during model testing, participating in a study visit to a transnational partner and workshops organised by the leader and the national partner, as well as in networking meetings. Testing will allow for a practical assessment of the proposed solutions and make appropriate corrections, changes and additions, so that the final version of the model is as practical as possible and most importantly effective for NSAs and their caregivers. The developed and tested model of respite tourism will be a standard for entities providing respite tourism services financed from PFRON funds and promoted by PFRON and a national partner in the environment of entities providing such services. As part of the project, 24 entities will implement the model in their operations, 48 grantee employees will increase their competences in the field of respite tourism. 1,200 carers and 1,200 people with disabilities will take part in the testing of the model. All expenditure incurred in the project will be in line with the "Summary of market standards and prices for the most frequently financed direct costs in the framework of FERS transnational cooperation projects".
