Developing competences in the field of transport as a response to the needs of key industries for the economy.

The ongoing changes in climate policy mean that the transport sector is facing enormous challenges. The need to reduce emissions, move away from hydrocarbons and increase the share of electric and autonomous cars in the total number of cars in use means that both the automotive industry (manufacturing) and related sectors will undergo profound changes. The search for new, greenest solutions will lead to the reduction of "traditional" road transport and will force changes in the way of vocational education (including higher education), and thus it will be necessary to define new competences for transport workers. A shortage of workers means the need to increase education in shortage occupations and in such a way that graduates are ready to enter the labour market with a minimum of training time. Such an effect is possible thanks to curricula prepared in cooperation with employers and practical vocational training aimed at acquiring real skills and practical competences. The involvement of employers in this process is important because, according to the PARP Report ‘The situation of young people on the labour market from the perspective of SMEs’, most employers indicate a lack of learning and experience (62.2%) as a barrier to youth employment (62.2%) and a mismatch between education and needs, i.e. a lack of knowledge (even general knowledge), a gap in technical knowledge (25.3%). The proposed project is intended to respond to diagnosed problems and challenges in the field of transport and the comments and needs of employers in this sector. The draft provides for: 1. Modification of the curriculum in the field of transport and creation of a new specialty: Multimodal transport management (2 editions starting from the academic year 2024/2025) 2. Creation of a new course in the Master's Degree – Transport Manager (2 editions starting from the academic year 2024/2025) 3. Establishment of a transport laboratory (purchase of hardware and software) allowing to work on programs used in transport and forwarding companies. 4. Improving the competences of students and lecturers, especially in the area of green competences, digital competences and universal design through participation in trainings, study visits, lectures of practitioners, etc. 5. Organization of internships for a total number of 70 people. – full-time students 6. Take measures to reduce the phenomenon of early school leaving (e.g. organisation of compensatory classes, demonstration lessons organised in schools aimed at recruiting people who are determined to continue their education in the field of transport). The project is part of the Regional Smart Specialisations set out in the Lower Silesian Innovation Strategy 2030 - LIFE SUPPORTED BY TECHNOLOGY’, point 7.2.2. Robotics, automation and information and telecommunication technologies in applications related to transport infrastructure and transport. The specialization includes the implementation of information and communication technologies as well as robotics and automation in applications related to transport infrastructure and public transport. Thanks to the modification/creation of new curricula, graduates will have the knowledge to manage and use the latest technologies and information systems for management in transport companies, they will also acquire competences in the use of VR, simulation and design of management systems in the transport industry. The project is addressed to a total of 190 students and 15 academic staff during the project implementation period 01.2024-12.2027. The project will be implemented in compliance with the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union of 26 October 2012 and the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, done at New York on 13 December 2006.
