Nursing as a deficit profession requires special care and consideration of the problems of this professional group already at the stage of education. Detailed analysis of the Report of the Supreme Council of Nurses and Midwives "Nurse, midwife of shortage professions in the Polish health care system" (April 2022) and "The long-term state policy for nursing and midwifery in Poland" of the Ministry of Health (2017/2018) allowed to create a project that, in cooperation with employers and practitioners, aims to adapt the University's educational offer to the dynamically changing needs of the labour market in this sector, as well as to "arm" students with knowledge and skills that will prevent them from not taking up work in the profession and giving up their profession. In accordance with the University's strategy for 2022-2028, the Medical University of Silesia in Katowice (SUM) aspires to be a strong teaching centre. To this end, a number of actions are planned to increase the innovativeness of the program and methods of education in the field of nursing, expand the educational offer and increase the competences of students and teaching staff in this field. The quality of didactics is an important factor of the University's competitive advantage on the educational market, which will be raised, among others, thanks to the implementation of innovative solutions using advanced VR and AI technologies creating a real, specialized and safe teaching environment, setting new standards in the field of teaching in the field of nursing. The guarantee of high quality education of future medical staff is the constant improvement of didactic competences, which is why it is important to create the opportunity to participate in specialized courses improving the workshop related to didactic activity, including in the field of green transformation, as an essential element of making the academic community aware of the need to shape the awareness of future generations to make responsible decisions and actions affecting the environment. The project activities cover all required types of activities (KD3) and will consist of: 1) Modify nursing education by introducing gamification elements into the "Anatomy" subject using the "Body Wars" web application and the "Basics of Nursing" subject by introducing the "Nurse Helper" trainer, which will enable students to solve medical cases, commission diagnostic tests and make diagnoses in real time, in order to provide students with specialist medical knowledge, gain practical experience and familiarize them with the use of IT technology in the educational process. 2) Implementation of additional elements of education for students: training in the field of stress management and prevention of burnout, a course using a disability simulator in VR virtual reality on the limitations and needs of people with disabilities and an interactive digital workshop on patient care using the mobile simulation application "Human Care - diagnostics and care". 3) Actions to reduce early school leaving: e-learning training for educators with a pilot program using digital tools for 16 secondary schools in the region, thanks to which workshops and e-lectures for school students will be conducted, containing medical and promotional content, encouraging to study in the supported field. 4) Development of competences of staff involved in the implementation of the education process in the above-mentioned direction, thanks to trainings increasing digital competences regarding the use of modern teaching methods and new technologies in the teaching process (VR and e-learning), as well as workshops in the field of communication and supporting the development of skills for the green transition (carbon footprint calculation methods).
