Excellent University - Education for the Economy

The aim of the project (P) is to develop the offer of directors. Jagiellonian University for the needs of the economy, the labour market and the green and digital transformation by implementing a comprehensive support programme for students and teaching staff in the period up to 31.10.2028. The support program will be implemented in 30 selected fields of 13 faculties. According to the research "What drives labour market success? Empirical analysis of university graduates in Poland" (Hojda, Roszkowska, Trojak, 2022) approx. 50% of Jagiellonian University graduates perform work incompatible with the field of study, which is the result of a skill gap; a large part considers that the profile of the work performed is not in line with the direction of education. Less than 6% take up the business at their own risk. Similar conclusions are drawn from the BKL 2022 on the competency gap. P covers all the following types of activities, forming a comprehensive support program, implemented in the fields of study covered by support (KD3): 1. creation of new or modification of existing education programs in cooperation with employers, practitioners or other entities operating in the socio-economic environment, 2. implementation of additional elements of education, including practical elements, increasing the competences of students, 3. implementation of actions aimed at reducing the phenomenon of early school leaving, 4. development of qualifications or competences of staff involved in the implementation of the education process, directly related to didactic or scientific-didactic activity through, among others, participation in courses, trainings, internships, study visits (national and international) or other forms of exchange of knowledge and experience with professional practitioners. Part of the activities, which cover all selected directions, are carried out in a common way based on the central units of the Jagiellonian University (tasks 13-15), which results from cost and organizational rationality. This approach has led the JU to offer, where possible, training for all project participants, rather than for each direction separately, thus lowering the unit cost of these activities. These will be "tailor-made" support paths for students and staff, implementing the above points 2, 3 and 4 in an individualized manner (KD3). The Jagiellonian University has a formalized and documented cooperation (at least one year) with employers in the field of practical el. education. Examples of Employers: SP ZOZ University Hospital in Krakow (large-scale cooperation since its inception, i.e. since 2001, e.g. clinical practices, training "at the patient's bed" for all medical students), Motorola Polska (for 13 years, specialized language courses for Motorola employees at the Faculty of Philology), Selvita and many others (KP1). Activities in P are the result of consultations with the social-gosp environment and are in line with the Małopolska Smart Specializations (MIS). We indicate compliance with the MIS in the domain of Life Science majors: Biology II, Molecular and Cellular Biophysics II, Molecular Biotechnology. II, Physician's Direction J, Physician-dentist's Direction J, Pharmacy J, Drug Discovery and Development II. These directions implement the assumptions of the MIS in 10 of the 13 areas defined for the province of Małopolska. Other directions are also in line with MIS (KP2). Activities are complementary to POWER projects: Z304/18 Excellent University – Integrated Jagiellonian University Development Programme (PLN 19 million) and Z309/17 Integrate – Comprehensive Jagiellonian University Development Programme (PLN 40 million), e.g. by continuing to modify programmes in other fields and equipping staff with other competences. P strengthens and consolidates the effects of these projects (KP3). For the implementation of P, we will employ a person with a disability, at least 1⁄2 of the full-time, for the entire period of implementation of P (KP4). The duties described in the section on the management of P. UJ will maintain the employment of the SA for at least 5 years after the end of P.
