Support for the education of nurses and midwives in Poland

The project Support for the education of nurses, nurses and midwives in Poland assumes the organization of qualification, specialist and further training courses for nurses, nurses and midwives in Poland. Additional support in the project will be the creation of a training platform, which will include short courses to improve, supplement and update professional knowledge and skills. The main objective of the project is to improve the professional qualifications of 12 262 nurses and midwives (80% of people covered by the support) in the period up to 31 May 2027, in the fields of nursing that are deficient from the point of view of Poland's epidemiological and demographic needs. The goal will be achieved by implementing postgraduate education in accordance with the Regulation of the Minister of Health of 30 09 2016 on postgraduate education of nurses and midwives (Journal of Laws of 2024, item 115) and the creation of a training platform to support self-education and the exchange of knowledge, experience and good practices in the medical community. In addition, a new supplementary course in midwifery nursing will be introduced into education, which will enable midwives to provide some health services to all patients. The implementation of the project will contribute to: improving the professional competence of at least 12 262 participants, - improving the quality of health care, - strengthening the role of nurses and midwives in the health care system. The project offers a choice of 19 postgraduate courses, including 4 further training courses, 9 specialist courses, 5 qualification courses and 1 supplementary course in nursing for midwives. One person can attend only 1 course of their choice. In addition, each participant can participate in any number of online courses (to choose from 15 courses), developed in the project and made available on a dedicated training platform. The changing demands of the labor market and the needs of patients mean that nurses, midwives and midwives must be up to date with modern medical techniques, procedures and technologies. Demographic and epidemiological changes also necessitate continuous training, supplementation of knowledge, skills and new professional qualifications, and continuous improvement of professional qualifications in various areas of nursing and midwifery. The ageing of the population and the related development of civilization diseases (diabetes, cancer, cardiac diseases) affect the need for more specialized medical care, and thus the need to supplement qualifications and skills from a larger number of working nursing and obstetric staff. The project, in order to promote the profession regardless of gender, will promote both women and men in its materials (e.g. through joint visualization of both genders in promotional materials). Elimination of stereotypes will contribute to the better functioning of medical teams and increase the prestige of these professions. Encouraging both men and women to work in nursing and midwifery should be a priority in building a fair and efficient healthcare system, which will also be one of the assumptions of the project's compliance with the equal opportunities policy. The project is part of the National Transformation Plan for 2022 - 2026 at the level of: 2.4 Podstawowa Opieka Zdrowotna, Działanie 2.4.2 Zwiększenie zakresu kompetencji lekarza i pielęgniarki POZ, podpunkt 4) - premiowanie ustawicznego szkolenia i podnoszenia kwalifikacji przez personel POZ oraz 2.11 Kadry, Działanie 2.11.1., Realizacja celów i działań określonych w dokumencie pn. ‘The State’s Long-Term Policy for Nursing and Midwifery in Poland’, including, inter alia, promotion of the professions of nurse and midwife and transfer of rights from doctors, e.g. issuing a short-term dismissal.
