Silesian University of Technology - a university with a new dimension of accessibility

The aim of the project is to strengthen the accessibility of the Silesian University of Technology (SUT) so that people with special needs, including disabilities, are guaranteed a space for education and work. The actions planned in the project, which meet the requirements set out in the Description of the Development+ Path, are aimed at ‘bringing into a new dimension’ the solutions already implemented in the field of accessibility, as well as minimising the impact of the barriers still existing at the Silesian University of Technology on all people studying, working, participating in the process of education and research (including those with special needs resulting from the state of health, including persons with disabilities, while maintaining gender equality). Despite ensuring access to tertiary education, people with special needs of TSOs, including people with disabilities, are less likely to obtain tertiary education. The Ombudsman's research shows that disability is mainly seen as a barrier and stereotypes hinder graduation. It is necessary to raise public awareness and combat stereotypes and prejudices against persons with disabilities. The main objective will be achieved through specific objectives: -reinforcing the functioning and accessibility of universities by extending support for TSOs, including NSOs - developing the accessibility unit -increasing accessibility and support for students of postgraduate studies, other forms of education, performing research and university staff. -development and implementation of solutions and procedures in the field of digital accessibility, information and communication technologies, supporting technologies -implementation of updated documents, procedures and guidelines in terms of equal opportunities and non-discrimination for TSOs, including NSOs -increase in educational support covering TSOs, including NSOs -development of managerial, administrative and academic competences in the field of accessibility awareness through participation in specialist training Specific objectives will be achieved through the implementation of tasks: 1.Organisational structure O1 O7 (Area 1, Area 7) 2.Architectural accessibility O2 O5 3.Digital, information and communication accessibility and technologies supporting O3 O4 O5 O6 O7 4.Procedures and educational support O1 O2 O3 O4 O5 O7 5.Training O2 O3 O4 O5 O6 O7 O8 6.Indirect costs The project will contribute to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (objective 4, task 4.5) and is in line with the 2021-2026 Development Strategy of the WP, covering the following strategic objectives: -improving the quality of the University's management and implementing pro-quality organizational changes, -providing high-quality education at university and doctoral school, based on research and innovation, -supporting individual scientific and professional development of employees and doctoral students, -flexibility of the education system enabling the adjustment of the study program. The direct target group is the University, and the participants in the project under O8 - the staff of the University of Silesia and students from institutionalized university structures. The recipients of the project will be persons taking part in the education process: i.e. students, doctoral students, postgraduate students and other persons in education, carrying out scientific research and university staff. The key result of the project will be to increase the alignment of the environmental impact assessment for TSOs, including NSAs. The project will further develop the Accessibility Unit, remove some of the architectural barriers and improve the accessibility of information and communication, digital and enabling technologies. In addition, services supporting education will be improved, existing documents will be adapted, as well as new procedures and guidelines developed. An important result will also be an increase in competences and awareness among employees and some students about the functioning and needs of TSOs, including NSOs.
