The main objective of the project is to use artificial intelligence (AI) to effectively implement digital accessibility in Poland. To achieve this goal, the project will create a virtual assistant - a tool designed for developers of digital solutions operating on the basis of an advanced chatbot. The tool will use existing digital accessibility validators of websites to detect and suggest the repair of certain non-compliances with the requirements set out in the Act of 4 April 2019 on the digital accessibility of websites and mobile applications of public entities (Journal of Laws of 2019, No. Journal of Laws 2023, item 1440; further: Digital Accessibility Act). The tool will also propose alternative texts to graphics, subtitles for multimedia materials and more broadly, through the use of artificial intelligence, will support users (i.e. developers of digital solutions) in addressing digital accessibility issues by suggesting ways to fix them, as well as by identifying potential problems that need to be looked at more closely. User support through AI will consist of the ability to talk (in a comprehensible language) with a virtual assistant about detected errors or other issues and doubts related to digital accessibility. This will mean that the tool will replace the digital accessibility expert to some extent, providing comprehensive explanations both in the form of answers to specific questions and by suggesting the direction of the screening activities. After the completion of the project, the tool will be maintained by the Ministry of Digital Affairs and will be fully functional for a period of 3 years.
