The European Commission through its policies foresees a stronger focus on sustainable urban development, including through the development of environmentally friendly, low-carbon transport systems and the promotion of sustainable urban mobility. An essential element of public policy is the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan, which is defined as a strategic public policy document aimed at meeting the mobility needs of people and economic activities in urban or metropolitan areas for a better quality of life, addressing all forms of transport throughout the urban agglomeration, in particular public and private transport, freight and passengers, motorised and non-motorised, moving or stationary.
