Ensure safe train, car and pedestrian traffic at ten priority level crossings on the Vilnius-Klaipėda railway line. The aim of the upgrade of level crossings is to increase the safety of railway infrastructure by prioritising the most risky infrastructure facilities (about 23% of all accidents occurring on AB LTG Infra infrastructure occur at level crossings), which have the most contact with other road users (the most intensive section of the IXB transport corridor has been selected), thus ensuring the achievement of the ‘0 fatalities’ strategy. The modernisation of the level crossing system also aims to increase the limited level crossing capacity and shorten the closing times of level crossings, which affect the waiting times of road transport and other road users. Currently, slowing down the speed before and during the crossing means that 1 train takes 4.5 minutes to pass. On average 68 trains pass through priority crossings per day and 5.1 hours to pass.
