Modernisation of the study environment of the Art Academy of Latvia

The aim of the project ‘Modernisation of the study environment of the Art Academy of Latvia’ is to modernise the study environment of the Art Academy of Latvia (AAL) by improving infrastructure and purchasing modern technologies and equipment to promote the development of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, mathematics) study programmes. The aim of the project is to provide high-quality education in the field of art and design in accordance with international standards and labour market requirements. The project will purchase state-of-the-art technologies and equipment, such as 3D printers, laser cutters for digital laboratories and other innovative equipment. The purchased equipment will promote interdisciplinary cooperation, the development of innovations and the integration of students into the changing labour market. In addition, it will provide students with the opportunity to acquire all the necessary skills in working with various media technologies, including audio, video, photo, multimedia, interactive media and mobile technologies. This will provide students with the opportunity to work creatively and develop in various sectors of the future related to creativity and innovation. The AAL study programmes are constantly adapted to modern trends in order to prepare students for the international labour market. The project will modernise infrastructure, renew and upgrade study equipment and technologies at all three levels of study – bachelor's, master's and doctoral programmes. Modern equipment will be provided for specific areas of creative industries such as art, design, visual communication and audiovisual media art. Implementation of project activities is planned for 48 calendar months, i.e. project activities are planned from 01.07.2025 to 30.06.2029. The total cost of the project is EUR 522 298, of which EUR 443953,30 is ERDF funding and EUR 78 344,70 is State budget funding. As a result of the implementation of the project, it is planned to modernise all accredited AAL study programmes (LR education classification code: 43211 / 43213 / 43214 / 45211 / 45213 / 45214 and 51211), with a total of 953 students studying in the academic year 2024/2025. During the implementation of the project, new equipment and facilities will upgrade premises with a capacity of at least 127 students and it is expected that during the implementation of the project, at least 175 students (unique users) per year will use the facilities upgraded with equipment and facilities. Modernisation of the study equipment will improve the quality of the education offered by the AAL and adapt the study content to the current requirements of the labour market, especially in the field of arts and creative industries. The project will promote the competitiveness of the AAL in the international educational space and ensure the readiness of graduates to work in digital and innovative sectors. The project will promote investment in human capital and improve Latvia's competitiveness.
