Access to health promotion and disease prevention services in Tukums Municipality, especially for the population at risk of territorial, poverty and social exclusion, implementing local measures

The aim of the project is to improve equal and timely access to health promotion and disease prevention services for residents of Tukums Municipality, especially those at risk of territorial, poverty and social exclusion, by implementing local measures. The planned activities of the project are aimed at improving access to health promotion and disease prevention services for all Latvian citizens, especially those at risk of territorial, poverty and social exclusion in all age groups. In Tukums Municipality, which is the third largest municipality in Latvia by territory, as in the country as a whole, a decrease in the number of population has been observed in recent years. This includes a shrinking working-age population, while the working-age population is on the rise. In a context of shrinking and ageing populations, it is crucial to increase productivity and ensure labour market participation of all potential human resources, in particular those at risk of poverty and social exclusion, to improve the health, social care and social security of the population, as well as the possibility to acquire new knowledge, skills and habits that improve the health and well-being of the population. It is also the focus of all the activities planned in the project, which will not only give every citizen the opportunity to engage in various health promotion activities, but at the same time will also educate and attract public attention to health issues, raising awareness about healthy lifestyles and the importance of healthy nutrition, as well as creating a desire to engage in health promotion activities. Planned project results: - Young people (pupils) will be aware of the different dependencies and their impact on health and on human life in general. As a result, the risk of students becoming addictive will be reduced. Students will be informed about addictive substances, will be able to recognize signs of the use of addictive substances, and will know where to get help if necessary. By transferring the acquired knowledge to peers, the number of pupils with different types of addictions will decrease, and the number of users of dependent substances in schools in the county will decrease, thus preventive measures will be taken among peers. - Young people (pupils) will be aware of the types of traumatism, will be able to anticipate them in a timely manner and will know how to avoid injury. The acquired knowledge will be shared with other peers, thus reducing injuries among young people and preventive measures will be taken among peers. Residents of the municipality will learn about disease prevention and health promotion measures within the framework of the project. As a result, they will carry out investigations and a part of the population will be prevented from suffering from serious illnesses in a timely manner. - The understanding of healthy diets will be changed. The participants involved in the project will introduce new knowledge and skills to their families, which will improve the habits of the inhabitants of Tukums Municipality and, most importantly, health, reduce cardiovascular disease. The project participants will be educated on sexual and reproductive health, which is especially important for young people to reduce teenage pregnancy and diseases of STIs and other diseases in Tukums municipality. - The mental health of the population will be strengthened. As a result of the project, the well-being of the population will be improved, the quality of life will be improved and various diseases will be reduced, as well as a stable and safe society will be formed. - Residents' perception of an active lifestyle will be changed. The number of people who spend their free time in sedentary activities will decrease. The population will have become more physically active, they will be more inclined to participate in sports events organised in the county, they will make more use of opportunities that are also available in the county free of charge – outdoor exercise equipment, walking trails, etc., which will significantly strengthen the health status of the population and reduce various diseases. - As a result of the events organized within the framework of the project, the participants of the target group with common interests will be united, and after the implementation of the project, the participants will be able to continue the activities started (for example, Nordic walking, exercising, exchanging healthy diet recipes, etc.), which will ensure the sustainability of the project activities and the creation of a healthy society in the municipality. - Project participants and cooperation in general will have acquired knowledge about health promotion and disease prevention measures. They will pass on their knowledge to others, thus educating the general public and carrying out preventive measures among project participants and peers. The project will be implemented with the support of the European Social Fund Plus. Th
