Development of wastewater and sludge management infrastructure in Ventspils

The aim of the project "Development of wastewater and sludge management infrastructure in Ventspils" is to improve the efficiency of wastewater treatment and sludge dewatering in Ventspils wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) and reduce pollution and its impact on the receiving water body - the Baltic Sea. In order to achieve the stated goal, the following activities will be carried out within the framework of the Project: 1) Rebuilding of the discharge of treated waste water into the Baltic Sea, ensuring the discharge and even distribution of treated waste water with the help of diffusers, in order to reduce the possible introduction of biogenic pollution and nutrients into coastal waters and the beach area, as well as the development of the construction design of this facility and construction supervision services for the planned construction works;2) Replacement and modernisation of the comprehensive WWTP automatic control system (ADC) equipment to improve the efficiency of the treatment process, including the efficiency of phosphorus reduction, ensuring a total reduction in the treatment process of at least 87.5% and concentration in the output, not exceeding 0.7 mg/l; 3) Reconstruction of the sludge dewatering plant of Ventspils WWTP, replacing the existing, obsolete decanter centrifuges with sludge presses. As a result of the reconstruction of the sludge dewatering plant, it is planned to significantly improve the efficiency of dewatering (the dry matter content of the dewatered sludge is not less than 20%), reduce the amount of sludge to be transported and reduce GHG emissions during the processing, storage, transport and disposal of sludge. The project will result in an improvement in the efficiency of wastewater treatment and wastewater sludge management for 33 850 residents of the Ventspils agglomeration. The total eligible costs of the project are planned to be EUR 5 384 100 excluding VAT, including public eligible costs of EUR 3 499 665 excluding VAT, which are covered by the European Union ERDF fund and private eligible costs of EUR 1 884 435 excluding VAT, which are covered by the municipal SIA ‘ŪDEKA’ and a loan in a commercial bank. The implementation of the project is planned for 30 months from the 2nd quarter of 2025 to the 4th quarter of 2027.
