The aim of the project "Improvement of the learning environment of Rezekne Primary School-Development Centre for the implementation of quality education" is to improve the learning environment, infrastructure, material and technical provision and educational resources of a special educational institution by increasing the capacity of a special educational institution for the provision of quality special education in Rezekne Primary School-Development Centre at 5 F.Varslavāna Street, Rezekne. By improving the infrastructure of the educational institution and modernising the material and technical provision in accordance with the special needs and modern requirements of every student, the capacity of the special educational institution of Rezekne State city - development centre for the implementation of high-quality special education for students of both the city and the region is increased. Within the framework of the project, renovation and reconstruction of the existing premises of the educational institution will be carried out: reconstruction and renovation of training facilities, including pre-school facilities, corridors, sanitary facilities and facilities, as well as adaptation of these facilities to the accessibility requirements of the environment; renovation of the heating unit and heating system and arrangement of engineering networks on the right wing of the building; purchase of ergonomic, easily portable furniture and special equipment to ensure optimal learning conditions for learners with various developmental disabilities. The construction of a lift and the purchase of a mobile tracked wheelchair lift, as well as the reconstruction of the main entrance of the building, adapting it to the needs of learners with reduced mobility, are envisaged to ensure the accessibility of the environment in a special educational institution. The improvement of the territory adjacent to the building will provide an opportunity to diversify the learning process and physical activity with activities in the fresh air. Created and improved work rooms of support specialists (special pedagogue, speech therapist, psychologist) will form a support mechanism to ensure that the educational offer corresponds to the special needs, abilities, skills and previous experience of students, thus forming the basis for individual learning opportunities and types, increasing the possibilities of participation in the learning process. The total cost of the project is 840 064 EUR, of which 714 055 ERDF funding and 126 009 EUR municipal co-financing. Project implementation period May 2025 - March 2027.
