The aim of the project "Adaptation to Climate Change in the South-Western District of Liepaja" is to "promote the resilience of the South-Western District of Liepaja to climate change and improve the quality of life of the population by carrying out complex water body improvement and infrastructure restoration, which effectively reduces the risk of flooding and integrates green infrastructure solutions". The project provides for the improvement of complex water bodies and the restoration of infrastructure, which includes the cleaning of ponds, the strengthening of banks, the improvement of drainage systems, the construction of green infrastructure elements and the performance of other works related to water management. These measures will, in general, contribute to increasing the capacity of the rainwater collection system, effectively reducing the risk of flooding, promoting adaptation to climate change in the south-western district of the city of Liepaja. The project also envisages the construction of such an improvement, the solutions of which will include the principle of diversity and inclusion, based on the needs of people with disabilities, including children, parents with young children and seniors with regard to specific needs in relation to the design, usability and function of the structure. The project also provides for the dewatering of sludge obtained from the cleaning of ponds using geotextile containers and flocculant, so that further dehydrated sludge can be used for greenery of Liepaja City Council (hereinafter - the Municipality). Output indicator planned within the project - Green infrastructure created or upgraded to adapt to climate change in an area of 2.16 ha. The total cost of the project is planned to be 350 000 EUR, the planned co-financing from the European Regional Development Fund (hereinafter - ERDF) is 297 500 EUR or 85,00% and the financing from the Municipality is 52 500,00 EUR or 15 %. The planned duration of the project is 30 months and not longer than until 31 December 2027.
