USE OF FUNCTIONAL OMICS IN THE INSTITUTE OF THE ORGANIC SYNTHESISE OF LATVIAN ORGANIC SYNTHENA - TARGETWISE

The project "Use of functional omics in the analysis of metabolic diseases to promote excellence in research on new medicinal products at the Latvian Institute of Organic Synthesis - TARGETWISE" was initially prepared and submitted to the Horizon Europe (HORIZON) sub-programme for spreading excellence and widening participation in ERA Chairs and thus complies with paragraph 31 of the SAMP Cabinet Regulation. Metabolic diseases are a major public health issue that is also of interest to the pharmaceutical industry. TARGETWISE is a project to promote research into metabolic diseases using big data analytics approaches. This project focuses on modernising the drug target discovery capabilities at the Latvian Institute of Organic Synthesis (LOSI) by setting up a Metabolo Research Group. The group will be led by an outstanding scientist, Professor H.B. Schiöth (H.B. Shiots), who has considerable experience in attracting and training international research talent. The Metabolic Study Group will become a hub for innovative data analytics approaches in the field of discovery of new medicines. The research activity will focus on the validation of the objectives of new medicines and the research of drug substances to address the challenges in the area of metabolic diseases. The research activity will focus on the validation of the objectives of new medicines and the research of drug substances to address the challenges in the area of metabolic diseases. The aim of such an approach is to detect metabolic disease-causing mechanisms of energy metabolism disruption, thereby paving the way for new research pathways. In addition to the development of research skills, the project aims to promote an innovation environment, thus improving the translation of the results of pre-clinical and clinical health research into practical applications. The results of the project will also promote international cooperation, promote cooperation with academic and industry partners around the world, as well as inform the public about research activities. The TARGETWISE project will contribute to the research of metabolic diseases in LIOS by creating an ecosystem of excellence, innovation and research of international significance. The main activities planned in the project - 1)Establishment of the Metabolo Research Group - create the basis for the identification and research of drug targets related to metabolic diseases led by big biodata in LOSI and Latvia, attracting the leader of the ERA-chair of world-class researchers and creating the Metabolo Research Group.2)Modernisation of research careers - modernize the research career framework and strengthen the human capital base in Latvia by implementing career development measures: e-learning, face-to-face training and seminars for both academic and non-academic staff at all stages of their careers.3) Metabolic research activities - to promote research related to metabolic diseases, using a large biodata acquisition approach to discover new drug targets and implementing interdisciplinary cooperation in pilot research projects, thus improving international recognition, increasing the quality and capacity of research and innovation in Latvia, as well as promoting European competitiveness and growth4) Capacity building - To create a platform for researching large data on metabolic diseases, in order to promote the implementation of the results of the detection of pre-clinical drug targets in drug discovery practice, thus strengthening strategic partnerships with industry, expanding research networks and attracting international funding, thus ensuring the sustainability of the metabolic research direction in Latvia and ensuring compliance with ERA values. 5)Dissemination, use and communication - to ensure the dissemination, use and communication of TARGETWISE results at regional, national and European level, involving actors in the field of metabolic diseases and biodata, the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry and citizens, including students and pupils. 6)Project management.Qualitative project management and monitoring will be ensured. The following main results are planned in the project: Metabolo Study Group (MPG) established, mentor programme established, trainings implemented, publication submitted for publication, database update introduced, MPG e-infrastructure description and sustainability plan established, funding for research grant received, communication strategy developed, website of the project, communication activities implemented, dtu management plan prepared.Establishment of Metabolo Research Group led by ERA-chair leader complies with the LIOS development strategy main development goal 1, which as one of the development directions for 2022-2027 determines the development of groups of excellence and IT infrastructure renewal in accordance with Open Science and EC Digital Compass requirements, Latvian Smart Specialisation Strategy, prioritising biomedicine, medical technologi
