The aim of the project "RTU Doctoral Grants in Support of Scientific Excellence in Smart Specialisation Areas" is to promote scientific excellence of Riga Technical University (RTU) and co-operation partners in the fields of smart specialisation by strengthening the human capital capacity of research and development for economic growth and transformation. The project will provide support to doctoral students in the form of grants to ensure the remuneration and research expenses of doctoral students, thus significantly improving the possibilities of doctoral students to carry out research work related to the doctoral thesis. It is planned to involve 93 doctoral students in the project by providing them with 12-month grants, which can be extended on a competitive basis. It is planned that at least 30 grant beneficiaries will be women. The project envisages educational activities for the target audience within the framework of the Doctoral School on an inclusive working environment in research organisations. Rezekne Academy of Technologies and three scientific institutes will be involved as cooperation partners in the implementation of the project: a derived public person "Latvian Institute of Organic Synthesis", a derived public person "Latvian State Institute of Wood Chemistry" and a State Scientific Institute - a derived public person "Institute of Electronics and Computer Science". Research institutes will ensure the employment of doctoral students for the development of research skills career prospects. The total funding of the project is EUR 5373712.88, of which EUR 4567655.95 is from the ERDF and EUR 806056.93 from the State budget. RTU will implement a non-economic project from the 1st quarter of 2025 until the 4th quarter of 2029, but not later than until 31 October 2029.
