The aim of the project is to support the adaptation of Riga City Council to climate change and to reduce the risks caused by climate change by implementing green infrastructure rainwater management solutions in the territory of the historic centre of Riga, creating and developing sustainable and efficient street greenery that fits into the existing urban environment and connects green corridors with the existing green infrastructure of the city centre. The following activities included in the project will be implemented: - improve rainwater infiltration/accumulation of rainwater in the soil, including the creation of at least one rain garden outside the atrium areas; - development of green corridors, creating greenery covering 1.4 ha - in existing beds, connecting beds and creating new strips of greenery. The expected benefits of the green infrastructure created during the project, including: - Reduce the heat island effect; - Facilitate the city's water sewerage system during intense rainfall; - Increase the safety and quality of the city cent pedestrian infrastructure; - Reduce the movement of sand in the urban area. The project is in line with the city's strategic objectives and priorities for improving the quality of the environment and the urban environment. By achieving the objective of the project, the established green corridors will ensure the connectivity of the public outdoor space, respecting natural processes, as well as improve the quality of life in the urban environment for diverse groups of users, promoting comfortable and environmentally friendly movement in the city, ensuring good environmental quality and pedestrian well-being, as well as a resilient urban ecosystem for climate change mitigation. Project implementation period from June 2025 to 31 December 2027 (30 months). Project funding: total budget of the project: EUR 3 523 958.50 (three million five hundred twenty-three thousand nine hundred fifty-eight euros and 50 cents), of which ERDF resources EUR 2 995 364.72 (two million nine hundred ninety-five thousand three hundred sixty-four euros and 72 cents) and municipal funding EUR 528 593.78 (five hundred twenty-eight thousand five hundred ninety-three euros and 78 cents).
