The aim of the project is to promote the development of a multimodal public transport network by rail as the backbone of the public transport system by establishing a public transport connection point at the railway station ‘Bieriņi/Children’s Hospital’ in Riga, while promoting micro-mobility through overall mobility.Developing the infrastructure of the public transport connection point ‘Bieriņi/Children’s Hospital’, the following activities included in the project will be implemented:Development of infrastructure necessary for pedestrian movement, following the principles of universal design, thus promoting an orderly and accessible environment for all groups of society, including people with functional disorders and citizens of different ages; rebuilding of carriageways, as well as construction of access roads to ensure convenient and safe access to the connecting point to be developed, while also ensuring convenient access to public transport stops (railway and bus); construction of lighting necessary to improve the security of the project area; greening of the territory, installation of benches for outdoor use to create a more pleasant and comfortable environment for everyone. These improvements will contribute to the accessibility and comfort of the public outdoor space by providing recreational facilities for different groups of the population, including seniors, persons with reduced mobility and parents with small children; the installation of bicycle racks and a bicycle repair station, which will facilitate a change in mobility habits for citizens planning to use the railway stop "Bieriņi/Children's Hospital" as a transfer point; the installation of a freezer to ensure the availability of quality drinking water in the public environment. The freezer will be designed at a height that makes it easy to drink and refill the waterbottle you've taken, and will be accessible to people in wheelchairs. Its design will also allow animals to drink.Achieving the project’s objective and establishing a public transport connection point at the Bieriņi/Children’s Hospital railway station would contribute to the development of the public transport network by rail as the backbone of the public transport system and at the same time strengthen micro-mobility in overall mobility. Diverse population groups would be given the opportunity to stay and move around in a well-equipped and safe public outdoor space, promoting comfortable and environmentally friendly movement in the city.Project implementation time till 30.06.2026.Project funding: 849 391.28 EUR, of which 721 982.59 EUR from the European Regional Development Fund and 127 408.69 EUR from the local government.
