The project is feasibility study about the model for transferring distribution of goods to the rail traffic network and to take place during quiet times and at night, when there is no passenger traffic on the rail network. The goal of creating the model is that the logistics of the stores (especially small units) is handled partly by the rail network, currently comprising the metro network, the Helsinki city tram network and the Raide-Jokeri light rail network. One purpose is to find out the possibility of getting cargo arriving at the port of Vuosaari directly into the scope of citylogistics by utilizing the service track of the Vuosaari metro line to the port, in which case a significant part of the logistics chain could be dropped completely. In addition, other ways of getting goods to the rail network and to consumers are being explored, for example through distribution points located at metro stations. The goal of the project is to create a model that will be piloted in a later stage within the framework of a separate project.
