Carbon Busters

Our current way of living and working on Earth - industrial production, land use, and over-consumption - affects the use of fossil fuels and the rapid release of carbon dioxide bound to the soil into the atmosphere over millions of years. The Earth has an imbalance in the amount of carbon sinks and carbon dioxide stored in the atmosphere, which is exacerbating the greenhouse effect and accelerating global warming. Reducing greenhouse gases and getting carbon neutral is a complex systemic change that now requires new innovations, a comprehensive change at the system level, and the introduction of new practices and technologies. Renewing and making change is challenging by leveraging old practices and technologies. What is needed now is new innovations and operating models that will emerge from collaboration through compaction, knowledge-raising and concrete project activities. The Carbon Busters project will build a network of experts, create and launch an innovation ecosystem, and develop an operating model in which companies and networks of experts work together on various research, development and learning projects related to climate change mitigation. The innovation ecosystem to be created in the project will bring cutting-edge research and expertise to solve the climate challenges of SMEs. Actors engage and commit to the operation of the innovation ecosystem through targeted and innovative SME projects (innovation projects). The aim is to provide the necessary input for the systemic change of SMEs and the development of new operating models by creating an innovation and ecosystem of innovation to address environmental challenges. Concrete work and co-operation projects with the university and research institutes raise the level of competence and knowledge of companies and employees. Collaborative projects also teach and prepare for working life. Through 30-50 business projects focusing on environmental activities, expertise, research results and innovations on the verge of commercialization will be made available to SMEs. In this case, the competitiveness and resilience of the target companies and the region will improve. Through business projects, knowledge and innovation ecosystems are strengthened and established. The business network is extensive thanks to the project partners. In business contacts in particular, the aim is to find companies that are unaware of the benefits of the green transition and new technology for their own business, as well as companies that have already taken independent steps in the green transition. In an open learning and co-development environment, solutions to mitigating climate change will be concretely promoted in the short and long term. At the same time, the know-how and knowledge level related to the carbon neutrality theme will be increased, and new experts will be produced in Uusimaa's SMEs to find carbon sequestration and emission reduction solutions.
