The purpose of the project is to meet the carbon neutrality 2035 goal of the Finnish government and North Savo province. The project supports SMEs in North Savo region towards a green transition by helping companies identify the environmental impacts of their own operations, find ways to reduce environmental impacts and reduce their carbon footprint. The project will increase the circular economy skills of operators and SMEs in the province and support companies moving towards circular economy business. As a measure of the project, verification of the current state of environmental responsibility of SMEs and development targets is carried out with the help of various 1) circular economy tools. The tools used are material reviews according to model of Motiva, carbon footprint and carbon handprint calculation, as well as environmental impact assessment and monitoring tools. The project implements 2) increasing circular economy expertise and circular economy business expertise for companies and 3) piloting various operating models, e.g. Utilization of side and waste streams from the construction and mining industry (Savonia-amk) and utilization of wood-based side and waste streams (Navitas Kehitys Oy). The project brings 4) environmental expertise to SMEs and increasing communication for the good practices of the circular economy and environmental responsibility.
